You need to know if you want to go performance/aftermarket, or stock.

Some owners insist that only Nissan factory brake parts will be silent. However, I have had good results with name-brand replacement friction materials (Raybestos, etc.).

My $.02

I was lazy and had SEARS do it. Bad news!!! Quality of work was horrible and noisy!!! They say it's dust. How about shi**y parts. I ended up getting the labor refunded and fixed myself. The front pads are noisy!!!! Never again.

Disclaimer: This is just my experience, you might have a more pleasant one. (personally, I doubt it)

The only thing I insist and recommend is using a new Nissan Shim Kit and the blue brake quiet stuff. Any pads I've thrown in using these items have always been silent....

Brake squeal is a common complaint with disk brakes, on all makes of car. Volvo is especially bad in this regard. Blue Goo anti-squeal compound applied to the steel backing plate of the pads is effective in many cases. Please refer to the Haynes repair manual, page 9-7.
