Shifting problem - Wont go from P to Reverse

MY car shifter has been very hard lately. It is becoming very irritable to move from P to another gear. It takes several attempts to get it to work.

HAs anyone experienced this problem? What could cause it and how much does it cost to fix?

its probably the shift interlock switch. it keep people from accidently shifting the car out of park. you need to put your foot on the brake and this lets you get out of park. you will feel a click in the shifter when the switch/lock is released.
