Easy just unscrew it b/c the new ones should also have the screw....Takes like 5 mins....Should be able to get it at any car parts store.

the hardest part is holding the hood up all the way while installing them. If you can get a friend to hold the hood up, it will be even easier.

Also be careful not to cross-thread, just like anything else that screws in.

I just bought and installed mine today. As others have said, there's really nothing to it.

Your going to need a 12mm open wrench to unscrew the upper fender and bottom fender bolts of the hood strut. Replace with Strong Arm Hood Supports and use the parts included. Very easy job. Just get a broom or something to hold up the car during install.

It shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes.

IIRC, 1 bolt each. I'm working on my 3rd set now

ah-HAH!

my buddy was trying to show me how to replace them using a screwdriver and popping them off. No wonder why they wouldn't budge. Awesome, I can stop carrying a wooden stick in my trunk now.

I recently put these supports in, but before I did, tried finding reviews on this brand, but couldn't find a thing. Mine seem ok, but they're practically new. I was wondering if anyone else has these for a while and if they've had any problems with them.

Dont replace them right away...sometimes because of the cold the struts tend to give way. I replaced mine last year with brand new ones, and they were fine all year...now that the cold is here, the hood doesnt stay open. Once the engine is warmed and the struts have gotten some heat they work good as new again.

rocco5446, Well the old owner had replaced one of the OEM hood stuts with a strong arm, but didn't change the other. IMO the old owner should have replaced both b/c now you have uneven strength to keep hood from falling. This inadverntly caused one of my hood stuts to fail prematurely. So, if you plan on replacing them than you should replace both.

Or keep a piece of 1/2" wooden dowel in the trunk and skip buying the new struts.

my strong-arms lasted for maybe 6 months and have been dead ever since. i think carparts.com had them really cheap when i bought them. the oem parts are like $100 each, so i suppose the strongarms are the only reasonable thing.

i've just been using a stick since mine blew... much cheaper than repacing them

IMHO replacing them is a waste of money. Just use one vice-grip to clamp the sucker open when you need it held open.

i freakin HATE those stupid shocks. i've replaced mine 2x before, and i'm done. screw it. has anyone modded it so they have a normal arm to hold it open? like normal cars? the shocks on the hood were a retarded idea. my friend's truck has metal hinges and springs, never wear that out. i have a 2x4 to keep my hood open, ghetto city. ppl laugh when i work on my car. so has anyone actually put a normal support arm for their max? i'm thinkin about tryin it. i'm sick of the 2x4.

Yeah in Chicago it recently got extremely cold, and I popped my hood open earlier today and my dad I were checking out how hard it would be to replace the thermo thing and the hood closed on my dad's head. So supposely the hood shocks are not good during the winter times unless your engine is warmed up.

i think you have to pop it out of the collar and then you replace it with the aftermarket ones. the replacements should have instructions included.

Strong Arms working fine for 2 years (not so well in the cold but I don't do anything under the hood in the cold so no prob there - have someone hold it up for a min when I have to refill the washer fluid)

camry's use these stupid hood shocks too? weird... i say screw 'em, why can't i just install a bar like normal cars? i'd rather take the small amount of time to move that bar than the luxury of not having to do it, that luxury breaking, and now i have this 2x4 in my damned engine bay to keep the hood up.

It got so cold here a couple weeks ago my 6-yr old battery wouldn't crank. Went to pop the hood and it just dropped. Luckily I had a shovel in the trunk to hold it open. LOL
They only seem to fail when it's below freezing.

mine fail all the time now. they worked when i first got the car, then it started getting weak so i replaced them. i noticed they didn't work as well when it was cold, but even when it's warm they don't work. i hate 'em personnally. wish i could do something to get rid of 'em forever, i'd gladly move that little bar that keeps my hood open, no matter the weather or wear. just my angry .02.

different struts, lighter hood, better strut positioning...

less opening the hood, too. most people that drive a camry don't know what their engine bay looks like. or that they even have an engine bay

hood struts

Make sure you get them at a place that gives you a lifetime warranty. I replaced my set with ones from Kragen. One failed the next year so I exchanged it. I anticipate doing this every year. Save the receipt.
