Help w/ Rear Calipers
Help w/ Rear Calipers
Hi,
My 98 GLE, 195000 miles, gets pretty good care from me. I rotated my tires and noticed that my rear calipers weren't making full contact w/ the rotors on the inboard side. It was obvious that they were contacting the rotor on the outer 1/2 of the rotor but there was very little wear on the inner 1/2. I did have a seized caliper on the right rear last year and replaced it, with much improvement in fuel economy (it was dragging pretty bad). I could understand the unreplaced caliper not contacting 100% (stuck), but it's puzzling seeing it happen on both sides. Master cylinder problem? brake line pressure?

Remove the calipers and pull the pins out & clean them with a wire brush. Clean inside the hole that the pin slides into as well. Then lube them up with high temp grease and reassemble. You can get replacement pins at most auto parts stores.
