? for Danial B. Martin on Emerg. Brakes -->
#1
Yesterday, my emerg. brakes (rear) were dragging on both wheels of by 98 5-sp w/ 15k miles - never driven in snow, rarely in rain! BTW, I always use the emerg. brake, so I'm surprised that they dragged.
They were dragging slightly on both wheels - enough to notice it, so I drove a different car to work. Last night, I jacked it up to inspect, and the emerg cable is tucked on top of the exhaust shields - PITA to get at. I checked the adjustment and even making it fully loose, they still dragged. Next, I sprayed it with WD-40 where it splits from single cable to double - after moving exhaust shield aside. They now drag ever-so-slightly, probably normal.
My question is : Are the emerg brake cables a problem on the Maxes, and how can I prevent it from happening again. I can bring it to the dealer (still under warranty), but my experience with the dealer is less than favorable, and quite frankly, I'm a wrench turner, and would prefer to fix things myself.

A suggestion: it is better if you refrain from calling on any Maxima.Org member by name. You don't want to "scare off" other respondents, especially those who have had, and solved, the same problem.

My personal experience has been that
whenever I see your name in a post, I will read that post. They tend to be about problems - and that is why I read this BBS. I am not into visual mods, but am more interested in learning all there is about fixing/repairing Maximas.
Once again, thanks for your contributions to the BBS. It is your advice that keeps me interested in the BBS.

Summary:
SOME VEHICLE MAY EXHIBIT A GROAN OR HUMMING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND MOVING FORWARD SLOWLY AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH (8 MPH). *TT
My 99 has done this since birth, especially under rainy/humid conditions. Not really sure what a dealer would do, though, which is why I haven't brought mine in....
Rit,
I understand your preference to only read Daniel's posts in topics but to put his name in the topic is a bit disingenuous to those of us who can also contribute.
