I was testing out the high end capabilities of my stock 99 SE 5 speed and I noticed that at around 130 it seems to top out. That was going up a slight incline though. Does the slightly steep grade of the highway cause this? Also, are there any low budget mods that would boost the high speed cruising capabilities of the car w/o making too much noise? ( I like the quiet engine )

Yes the hill makes a difference, and most if not all of the mods that increase your high speed performance make noise. However, most of the noise is livable. You should be able to top 140.

Thanks. I was thinking about either a cone filter or a header.

Your true top speed is what your car can do when its running on a flat level road. Going uphill will reduce it, and downhill will increase it.

That makes sense. One other thing that I forgot to ask was if the pedal should be all the way down, because my CRX seemed to need it down about three fourths of the way until it got up to around 120 or so, otherwise it seemed to take a while with it all the way down. I know that probably sounds crazy, but it's true.

I have felt that in my car as well, like you get better acceleration by feathering the pedal, or not quite flooring it. It could be that the acceleration is actually better, or, the pedal isn't as linear in response to your foot from 3/4 to full as it is from zero to 3/4. So, in the 2nd scenario, the acceleration would still better by flooring it. Hmmmm . . . .

Intakes make alot of noise above 5000 RPM. HEAders on Maximas are reported to have little effect over the stock setup. And the quickest way to get to top speed is to let off the gas after about 5800 in third gear, or else the car will hang in third and be very reluctant to shift into 4th.

You must be talking about an automatic Maxima. The only reason my car will hang in 3rd is becuase I tell it to

Only the GXE w/o C&C package is limited to about 115-120mph. It will vary. At speeds that high, your speedo is about 5mph off give or take.

If you get a intake & y-pipe. You will have less trouble hitting 140 and the car pulls a lot more on high end.

The fastest top speed i have seen so far has been done by SX7R. He has a mpeg of it. He has topped out at 151mph. He has a apexi digital speed/rev meter so that told him how fast he was going past the 140 mark.
