Yippee!! Just picked up my 97 SE today...

just got home after the 7 hour drive from Dallas. The car is as clean as advertised and drove home even nicer. I love having my Max back. I love it already but I have a few nit picky things to gripe on:

First the damn Bose CD player won't play my burned CDs!! Is this normal for the 97s?? If so that sucks cuz I like having the OEM stereo. They worked in my 99 so I'm not sure if its just mine or the model year.

Second, after having drove a Lexus GS300 with L-tuned suspension and 18"s I was spoiled by the handling. And while the Max rode nice I was not very happy at all. The first thing I'm gonna do (besides tint) is get a strut bar. Second, depending on how much it costs I'm getting it lowered....I know there are tons of options but I'll figure that out next week. I probably have a budget of $500 or so. I'll get clear corners later...suspension is the first thing on my list! (unless, I can't fix the damn CD issue...then that will be first...gotta have my music!).

Anyway, that's all...just wanted to let everyone know I got my Max today!

Good for you

Are you trying to put mp3 into the cd player because it not mp3 compatible and have you tried a reg cd from a store?

No, I tried to put a CD (CD-R) that I burned from other CD and/or MP3s...they play like regular CDs in my other cars. I'm not playing MP3s. Some of of the CDs will work for a couple of songs then I hear static and it just cuts off and gives me the "err" message.

my 98 bose plays all CD-R's. Maybe its the way you burn or something. Once in a while i get an ERROR or it not play. Take it out , pop it in and bingo.

Yeah, my 99 used to play some of these exact some CD-Rs...and they play fine in my other cars. This leads me to believe its the 97 Bose itself. Hmmm....I dunno...you think I can take a 99 stereo and put it in my car and it still work??

Yup, definately spend the $30 for clear bumper lights, it'll look much better.

My 97 Bose played all CD-Rs.... never gave me any errors... I'm surprised yours won't play them...

I remember you posted before about buying this max, I'm glad you got it. It was just too clean to pass up. I HOPE IT STAYS THAT WAY!!

Nice ride. My 97 Bose plays some cd-r and not others. I think that has to do with the disc I'm using. RCA does not play for me at all. Other discs will. Weird huh?

grats on your purchase.
but screw clear corners.
I'm kinda leaning toward going back to stock orange corners.

Sweet ride, welcome to the 97SE club. Leather too, nice. My bose will act up every once in awhile with cd-r, but it has only happened once or twice with the same cd. I would say slower burn speed as well and you should be fine.

congrats on the Max, and a nice color combo as well

as for the bose, there have been mixed reviews on the factory bose, some have taken it out and put in a better system. w/e you do w/ your Max, i'm sure it'll look nice

Thanks for all the feedback!! I paid $5950 for those who are curious. It seems a little on the high side but for a 1 owner car with all the service history and as clean as it is I couldn't pass it up. I have been looking for 3 months for a clean black/black with those options so I'm happy with the price I paid.

Anyway, I will try redoing some of my CDs at a slower speed. If that doesn't work I don't know what to do. Like I said, I have about $750 left for any mods and the TINT is getting done first ($200)...so that leaves me with about $500 left...and like I said, I have to do something with the suspension...but if my stereo wont' work that gets #1 priority...

You know, it could be the brand of CDs I'm using...I'm using some off brand I got at Office Max for $10 for a spindle of 50....so the cheap brand could be the issue. Too bad it works with everything else. We'll see...

That shouldn't matter. Just make sure you finalize the CD after you burn it.
