cat back exhaust

I need a cat back exhaust, and dont want to spend alot and maintain the quiet tone. What do my fellow Orgers suggest? Whats the most cost effective setup?

By need what do you mean? This question is asked a lot. Probaly there is a cat-back thread on the same page.

An exhaust isn't going to help you much. Its more of a noise maker. Keeping everything stock and changing the muffler will make the a very nice low quiet tone.

Right, Turtle, I realize that there is not much of a benefit from a hi-po cat back exhaust. I'm wondering what the majority of guys are running, that is cost effective and works well with a low noise factor. I'm guessing stock is the way to go, and how much... maybe there are certain places to buy for the best price. Courtesy Nissan's price for a muffle is $350

metal, do you 'need' a new catback cuz yours is rusted out, or is it more of a performance/tone based mod? cuz a cheap alternative would be pickin up a good condition used OEM catback. cheap and effective.

otherwise, you could go to Papa Joe's garage and see if he'll hook you up with 2.5" piping catback. bring in a nice muffler and finish it off with that. perhaps a 5th gen or a flowmaster or something. also, get your b-pipe resonated. a custom job like that should be close to $250-$300ish, depending. good luck!

well, then i would suggest goin to a garage and just gettin some custom piping done. 2" or 2.5". whatever floats your boat. bring in a nice muffler and resonator and you should be sittin pretty and only forkin overa bit over $300ish. but by then you might as well drop the extra $100 or so for an SP2 or find a Apexi WS. sorry. i probably just made it harder!

I've looked in at Greddy site..........saw where they made an cat back for a 95-96 but not a 97-99. I'm thinking of going with the stock cat back and muffler.....and if my budget allows, a y-pipe this spring. ANyone running a muffler other than stock?

Catback exhaust upgrade

Yup, just last week had a full catback exhaust upgrade. My old one was starting to corrode so I thought it a good idea.

I upgraded with a hi-flow 2.5" cat with a 2.5" mild steel system run into a stainless steel 3.5" muffler. The upgrade is on a 'stock' 95 30GV. The total install cost was $610au, for local small brands.

The car is significantly louder. It seems strange, the car feels quite different and I've lost the snap to the response in the lower range (my driving range). I fear I may have gone and put power only into a band that I don't usually drive in and sacrificed the power range that I do use.

I've read that it can take a little while for the ECU to adjust, but I'm not convinced it'll be the same.

Does anyone know how to return the lower end response to the Maxima, without having to ditch the new exhaust setup?

I have had my Greddy Sp for about 3 1/2 years now and I love the sound. It is deep and quiet. I believe the 1995-1996 exhaust will fit the 97-99 models also, but the price is a bit higher than the local shop welding on a flowmaster muffler. Your choice.

One thing I have learned in my life. There is no such thing as "good" and "cheap". We have a sign in my office, it says "Service, Quality, Cheap and Fast, you can only have two".

BTW: Check out my thread.

I saw your post, very nice setup you have. That would be exacty what I would want exhaust wise, seems perfect to me. Life, priorities and knowledge are pressing so I went for the common trade.

Agree with your motto, to an extent, would like things that should work... to work
