N00b Headlight Question??

Ok, this is probably well-known, but I honestly have no idea and have never heard it come up, but with all the recent headlight threads poppin up, what I want to know is this: My Max isn't close, so I can't look at it up close, but are the grooves on the 95-96 headlight on the inside, outise, or in the form of the headlight? If there were on one of the surfaces, I'd assume there weren't very deep. In that case, could the headlight itself be sanded down to remove the texture of the grooves and result in a 97-99-like clear headlight?

Probably already known and not really possible, but just wanted to know. Cuz then you'd have clear and glass headlights all in one.

Thanks

The grooves are on the inside of the lens....

and I think sanding them would only scratch them up, I dont see that working....

...and, I think even if you did sand them, they still wouldnt look as clear as 97-99 headlights since their's are made of thin, clear plastic and ours are made of thick, grooved glass.

the grooves in the 95-96's are what give the beam pattern..

whereas the 97-99's do not their pattern comes from the "chrome looking" housing in the back

You can't sand down glass. Even the most fine sanding and finishing cannot make a glass OR plastic surface optically clear. All clear glass and plastic must be cast that way.

As was said before, those grooves are what distributes the light so that you get the best visibility. If you really don't like your 95-96 genuine glass lamps, you can retrofit with the plastic 97-99 ones. I like the 95-96's better only because the harder glass tends to hold up better than the plastic, which fades and scratches more easily.

i guess i just figured that if you had a scratch on the outside of the lens, you could sand and polish it out, so why not sand and polish the pattern? i know. it was pretty big stretch. just wonderin.
