0304 code...always knock sensor?
0304 code...always knock sensor?
Anyone get this code and it was not the knock sensor. I thought the knock sensor was a ghost code, does not make a CEL. My lower end 1000-3000 is fine, pulls hard up hills. Always use 93, no exceptions, car runs and drives fine. I am going to test the knock sensor, but I have been told this is not always accurate. If it tests fine, where do I check next. Thanks
If you have CEL on, then you have more than just one code ... if the CEL is not on and you check for codes and get 0304 then it's definitely the knock sensor.
Go to autozone and have them pull ALL the codes... then report back. stat.

I just got that code yesterday, along with a coolant temp sensor code... I have never checked for codes using the ecu box.. I figured if something was really wrong the cel would go on. Well the cel came on last week, and i was gunna have autozone scan it until i found out about the screw on the ecu box thang... Sooooo... Ive been all about modding my a4 and obsessing over it and have ignored my Max. It has been SLOW for the past few months... When I read about the KS symptoms, and i know it has never been replaced, at 116kmiles its not gunna hurt, plus the idle has been noticeably lower but not erratic... It will start up sometimes fine and others it will take 2 tries, start up for a split sec. and then cut off right away. As a matter of fact, my wife JUST came in and told me it idles rough. I have some major maintnance ill be doing this weeked.. Including:
Oil change
Spark plugs (ngk right?) Is copper better even though they need changed more often?
Coolant flush- the easy way
ECTS
Knock sensor
Clean IAIC valve ya thats it i think
check pcv
clean egr
This car was dealer serviced up to 75-80k miles with all records... It needs shocks bad.. Im 2nd owner and 1st owner was my friends dad who drives like a woman. Timing belt chatters, how much for a new tensioner and how long of a DIY is it? Anything else I should be doing while im at the rest? Sorry to hijack this thread, i just need some input.
