Hi, all. I bought a '98 Maxima a week ago and love it! Anyway, I just noticed a piece of clear plasic tubing, about 1/2" diameter, pointing down under the rear passenger fender. The end of it is about 3" below the bottom of rear passenger fender. It gives the impression that it is a drain tube of some sort. I haven't seen it on other Maximas.

Is this supposed to be there, or has it become loose, or is it debris that has become wedged there?

Please excuse this silly question, but this is all new to me...

Thanks.

Does your Maxima have a sunroof? If so, this mystery tube may be a sunroof drain.

Dan, yes it does have a sunroof (now). In fact, it was just installed yesterday, and I noticed the drain this morning. That would explain why I didn't notice the drain when I washed the car over the weekend.

I didn't realize a sunroof had a drain???

Thanks...

Probably more than one. That rain water has to go someplace. It's better to give it an easy path to the roadway than let it seep into the passenger cabin.

Did you have an OEM sunroof installed or aftermarket?

I dealt with the Nissan dealer that I bought the car from, but I believe he farmed it out because the controls are different than those on the '98 Maximas with OEM sunroofs...
