Lag up high...

hey guys. i heard this weird problem last night on my way home. i was merging into traffic and i stomped on it. when i got tight before redline the car like lagged almost. around 6k rpms it sounded like it lost some air then right before redline picked up. I do have a MEVI installed. i dont think this caused it but i havent ruled it out. its right around 6k rpms when it does it, it like loses air. the intake makes a weird sound, just like it is losing some air.

anyways everything on the car is running fine. the only thing that i think is going bad is the alternator. its been making a whine/whistle from the alternator.

anyones have this problem or can shed some light on it for me?

thanks

Sean

Sounds like your RPM switch is crapping out causing your MEVI to close at 6K rpms. What RPM switch are you using ??

Test it at a lower RPM and see if its opening the Manifold with your hood open. Also if you set on a certain RPM, say 5000, switch to 5100 and see if theres a possible problem with the switch

well theres a safetey mech where the engine lags when u get to redline.. rather rite before.. the whole purpose is to keep from blowing up ur engine by redlining it.... it happens.. it think the fuel cuts back... ECU makes the pump cut back.. i beleive.. or is that for the speed govorner... but quite shure all cars do it..
the //M3 tuns the engine of if its in redline for over some odd seconds...

There definetly shouldnt be a lag at 6K RPMS. The ECU doesnt cut back gas at all up there. Fuel cut is 6600, no less

the switch is a summit. ill check it out in the morning to see whats going on. im pretty sure its working down low because there is no lag there. its jsut right about 6000 it kinda jumps.

Try simple things first. Is the fuel injection system getting enough gas? Maybe the engine is running into lean cutoff if it has been awhile since you last changed the fuel filter.

Just thinking of the simplest cheapest things first.

You may also have an ignition wiring problem, which often shows at high rpm first.
