A few questions for a 96'
A few questions for a 96'
Hey ya'll, just a few questions I had for you...
Recently (around 2-3 weeks ago) my brake light started 'sticking', if you would, or has been staying on even if my e-brake is entirely disengaged. I tried restarting the car, re-engaging and disengaging the e-brake several times, but to no avail. Eventually, or sometimes on start, the light disappears, but it's starting to get annoying. What do you think it might be?
Also, I'm taking an automotive class in college right now, and part of one of our assignments is to fill out a service sheet for the car we're going to work on. One of the questions it asks is the total capacity and the capacity refill for the transmission fluid. It also asks this for the Differential, along with the symbols (not sure what this means). I tried looking in both the owners manual, and the Haynes manual, but it only suggests to fill to capcity, but never actually lists the total capacity or recommended re-fill.
Any help is appreciated!

Wow, okay great, I'll get on that brake fluid in a bit. Gonna have to wait until Monday for me to check my brake pads though.
Now if anyone could give me some information on my other question, I'll be good to go.

I have a question about a 96 also... My friends cruise control on his 96 isn't working... I turn the cruise control on and set it but it won't engage. The dash light turns on as if the cruise control is working but it acts as if it was off.
Sorry about jumping on this thread, but I haven't posted enough to create my own...

Haynes should have the capacity of the transaxle, and that is both the transmission and differential, since it's a FWD car. RWD they're seperate, but FWD the differential sits right there along with everything else, directly driven by a gear, not a driveshaft.
Ok, you're right--I guess it was just listed for the sake of being listed, for it had RWD on there as well. Haynes does list it under it's capacities chart, but there is no number--it simply says "fill until it reaches the appropriate amount", but gives no numbers. The same applies for my owners manual.
As for my brake light, I topped it off with some brake fluid which I bought and it worked great--no more light. The container was at the minimum line, so it definitely needed to be refilled.
I'll check out that site in a sec and see if it's there...
And Geiste, I'm not an expert in that area, but I would check your fuses and relays and see if any are blown. I believe fuse 1, 2 and 3 belong to cruise control.

Trans holds 12 to 13 quarts if I remember correctly 4 to 5 quarts when flushing the fluid. The differential is I believe refering to non-locking VS. VLSD
variable limited slip differential. All, or most 96 maximas have non locking differential my 96I30t has VLSD, yours id most likely non locking. Trans code on firewall passenger side engine bay. You can decode by looking in the how to's and stickies. Hope this helped
