Oil Filter dangerous location

I was driving down I95 and I heard a sound. Like a BING. Eventually got around to changing my oil today and I noticed that the oil filter had a rock sized dent in it. This could have been disasterous.

I have to relocate my filter. Has anyone done this? What kit did you guys like best?

You know we have a splash guard that protects the filter from debris? The little plastic panel you have to take off to get to the oil filter...

Yeah i know that. Except I dont have one because my tires tore it up. Even with that plastic thing the oil filter is right in the wheelwell. I dont like it

Plus I want to use a bigger filter like a motorcraft FL1

The reason your filter took a hit is because of the missing guard, not the location.

I would rather do that and save money, and having a bigger oil filter does not mean anything, I would rather say it is a waste of money.

whats dumb also is the electrical wires that run under where you take the filter off- oil gets on them - really dumb design- guess the factory never changed the oil in the test cars.

that plastic housing in the wheel well

Just b4 the winter, I noticed that the plastic guard was ripped off (1/2 on & 1/2 well... not there). Then I noticed that without that plastic guard, there were belts and pulleys exposed to the elements. As soon as I could, I ordered a replacement of it. It was easy to replace and I know that the exposed areas are protected. The part ran about $30. (BTW: it's not an engine guard... I can get the name if someone needs it).

Now I'm not sure about the advantages of a bigger oil filter, but I know that by preventing rocks, sand, salt etc from getting into the pulleys, belts etc, I continue to baby my baby!

Just my 2cents...

you know that http://www.nissanpartspro.com/ used to have that piece for like $8.95 but they have recently redone their catalog and i don't see it anymore. But you can try calling them and see if they still have it. (at least i think it was them)
