Hey fellas, I was wondering when should i tune up the max. I have just under 70K miles. Should i just replace the plugs, wires, and stuff, or should i over hall the whole thing. Also, is it okay if i am using 89 octane instead of the 94 which is ridiculously expensive to buy...thanx

The 60K maintenance procedure includes replacing the spark plugs. If your Maxima didn't get that service at 60K, do it now. The VQ30DE engine used in all 4Gen Maximas has no spark plug wires.

Nissan recommends fuel with 91 Anti-Knock Index. You will get better economy and performance if you use this quality fuel. Some owners report good results with 89 AKI but many others don't.

You mention 94 AKI fuel. In many parts of the country gasoline is available in three grades: 87, 89, and 93. I fill with equal amounts of 89 and 93. That's the economical way to buy 91 AKI fuel.
