What is the best scan tool to buy
I have a 1995 SE. Want to buy a scan tool for my car. I do have a laptop and would like to use it with it. Was wondering if anybody has one that they use or have suggestions on who has the best one to offer.
Thanks guys
Thanks guys
a scan tool... there are many diffrent types you would be looking at depending on what you wanted to do.
personally unless you doing some engine tuning. Just go with a $30-50 pocket OBD2 reader off ebay. I think its the quick easy way to do things. I mean why go all out and a laptop software just to pull codes, when $50 can cut it.

Look at the Actron 9145 (OBD II), you can get adaptor cables from them to hook up to OBD I as well, but you should ask their tech line if the OBD I will work with your car first (not all do)........... http://www.actron.com/whats_new.php
1st off 95s are ODB II the OBD2 port is on the passenger side near the ECU

Nope they all are...some people just dont think they are because the Diagnostic port is not where it is on 96-up so they think they dont have OBDII...but in fact they are....all 4th gens have both ports....ones is the Nissan Consult Port the other is OBDII port
^ correct.
in 96 when OBD2 offically was mandated on all cars, a rule of the port having to be within 16inches of the steering wheel or something close to that came into effect. That is why now a days they are there in the same spot. On 94-95 cars with OBD2 they are all over the place.
But again i recommend the Cheapies ebay stuff. They are under 75$ but 85% of them are at $50. Snap-on stuff does a little more. I got to play with some of them, they can also data log. Tell you what gear your tranny is in. If your torque converter is unlocking or locking. Brake switch is on. A lot of minor little things that wont serve a purpose to the normal person but serve us techs very well.
