Hid Kit Without Projectors

I want to get an hid kit, but dont want to do the projector retrofit. I like the look of the stock 97-99 lights. Most people Ive heard on the forums say that you get an uneven beam pattern and alot of glare without projectors, but several cars came from the factory with non-projector hid headlights like the 01-02 acura tl and 2nd gen q45....anyone done a hid upgrade without projectors and done something to address glare issues?

You need a shield to help direct or rather block the light. I used a shield and bulb holder from a Volvo HID setup. Works pretty good, descent beam on the road and no glare to on comming traffic.

Nice, Can you take some beam pictures of your "some-what" retro fitted HID. Are they bright as the projectors or not?

cars that came stock without projectors have reflector housings that are designed for this purpose. they also use D2R bulbs. This is nothing like our housings..

I heard somewhere that you can use a soda can to make a shield out of it.

honestly i'd like some pics of the beam, if the lighting is that much improved over 9007 xtravisions, i figure its money well spent, but 650+ for projectors isnt in my budget...

Is the Volvo HID Housing a custom fit job? Where did you get them? I need to make something for my HID's too. Post pics of beam pattern if you can for us!

i have hid without projectors or sheilds.....i love it compared to stock. i will say projectors give you alot more usablility of the light that it puts out. My hids are aimed down alittle and i have eyebrows, and i do not create tons of glare. i hardley ever get flashed unless i am comming up over a hill or soemthing.....
