4th gen interior color?
4th gen interior color?
Man! its good to be back! Im getting another Max...I had a white 96 SE with grey interior. Im looking online for one with grey interior and they are alllll tan. Was this an SE thing? an option? or just really rare or what?
I had a second gen white SE with BLUE interior.
Although I drove that car for 300K (trouble-free) miles, I hated it every day.
(I had no choice, I bought it used)
So, my fourth gen beige interior looks good to me incomparison.
It is not leather. IMHO leather is the worst possible material outside of sheet metal.
Cold in the winter, hot in the summer.
I went through several sheetskin seat covers back then....
:-)

BTW, for a while, I had a BMW with black leather interior, and my wife had the same car with a beige leather interior.
There was a *considerable* difference in interior temperature in the summer.
But in winter there did not seem to be any difference.
I learned where the shady parking spots were in a hurry!

My Sage Mist had gray leather which was alright, but I much prefer the black/charcoal sport cloth on my current Max. I prefer the cloth over leather because it doesn't get so hot/cold depending on the weather...I do wish it looked a little more luxurious though.
Ode To Black Leather, Mf'ers!
The tan leather interior sucks mainly because of the poop-brown "accents" throughout and the black steering wheel and instrument faces. I'm sorry, but black clashes BIG TIME with brown. That's why black leather 4th gens are 1,000,000 times better than tan leather 4th gens. Look at a BMW with tan leather--it looks classy because everything MATCHES.
And no, black leather is not uncomfortable. In the winter I'm wearing long sleeves and pants so it makes no difference. In the summer I have 20% tint and a windshield reflector thingy so it doesn't get hot. And leather wouldn't burn you even if it had been in the sun but metal (e.g. seatbelt buckles) sure will. The only problem I see with leather is its lower friction, which means on those hard turns there is more potential to slide in your seat than with cloth.
Another benefit of leather is it doesn't create static electricity when you slide across it. With cloth seats if you rotate your @$$ a bit getting out of the car, the car will shock you. Spills are usually easy to clean up on leather, whereas spills soak right into cloth. Black leather doesn't show much at all so you can get away without cleaning it.
I spent months looking for a 5-speed, black on black 4th-gen Maxima, and I finally found one three hours away and snatched it up. Well worth the search and the drive.

i got tan and i like it, most people prefer the darker. It makes them feel better
on the tan, hard to keep clean though.

I'd take charcoal cloth over tan leather, no question.
