My Axxis Ultimates dust and squeel like mad. I'm going to give Hawk a try and if those suck too, I'm going back to OEM.

Ummm... Akebono IS the OEM for the Maxima. (Pretty sure for all Nissans for that matter.)

I'm new to the Maxima world, but the BMW guys-in-the-know only use PBR Deluxe pads.

They work really well, last a long time, and they are relatively dust free.

If you've ever had to clean a BBS wheel you know how important that last feature is!
:-)
Do a search on "PBR Brakes". You'll find lots of places that sell them online.
Good Luck!

I concur with the common consensus, that autozone or oem pads are prolly the most effective choice. I just ordered some fresh Brembo cross-drilled rotors for my I, and was going to slap some Hawk Street Performance pads on, but they cost almost as much as the rotors, which is simply mad. If anyone has tried Hawk and can explain why they are so ridiculously priced, I think we would all appreciate it.

I ran Hawk HPS pads on my 240 and LOVED them, much better braking then OEM, much better initial grab, they are less prone to fade and dont dust that bad. Price wasnt that bad $75 front and $45 rear i believe. Pay to play and this isnt a cheap hobby.

The car originally came with Akebono pads. The replacement from Nissan was a set made by Hitachi. The 2nd set didn't have the holes on the edge for the anti-squeal springs.

From the segments of the above that are in actual English, I gather that the writer continued to throw the "worst" pads somewhere, despite having unfavorable results the first million times or so.

Sounds like someone who knows what he is talking about for sure, but I will continue to rely on my many thousands of trouble-free miles with PBR *Deluxe* Pads, when I next look for brake pads.

And a Happy OEM Biatches to you too!

I have axxis ULT as well....absolutely hate them..the squeal is just unstoppable...the dusting as well...3days worth of driving and my polished lip is SOAKED with major brake dust....the stopping power is there though...much improved over OEM...but fawk the squealing...just not worth it

I've had a couple sets of Hawks up front. They dust a lot, lightly squeal once in a while (a little groan as well), grab very nicely. I liked them when they were on my car. I had planned on going with those again, but I may just give the OEM ones another shot (dont' do the spirited driving thing much anymore ). I am currently using Raybestos Quietstops.

I have the axxis ultimate pads on right now in the front only, and please do yourself a favor and erase that from your list. As a few other people have said in this thread, they dust and squeel like mad! Not so bad on the squeeling in the winter time, but when its warm out.. man. And dust.. omg my front rims constantly look like their gunmetal / black color while my back rims are perfectly clean. I've given up on washing my rims as days after I wash them they got dust on em again. Never again will I buy this pad, not cause they dont brake well, cause they do, but the dust and noise is unacceptable.
Im going to try the Hawk brand next brake change.

Raybestos Quietstops. Relatively inexpensive and no squealing.

I've heard great things about the Hawks except that they wear fast. I was thinking about getting some autozone pads. I was shocked when I went to purchase some for my girls car and it was $30 for 2 pairs! Dirt cheap and they feel damn good in her car.

I may go autozone for a little while, plus lifetime warantee!! c'mon . . .

I run brembo slotted all the way around with EBC green stuffs up front, and HPS in the rear but only cause EBC doesn't make a pad for rear aplications. Stops very good, even when they get hot. with the slots they seem to groan when they get really hot, but braking is not reduced. very little dust from either pads, but then again I clean my car so much I rarley get a noticable build up. I've been running this set up for about a year now, and nearly no wear showing from the pads or rotors. I also followed the proceedures supplied by EBC to brake in the pads. Very pleased with the Brembo's as well as the EBC's and HPS.

i currently have PBR metal masters and they seem to squeek and have that sound here and there. but i can really feel the difference in the stop and the feel. im gonna try some other stuffs next time. the dusting is kinda crazy too imo.
