Hesitation when giving 98 max the gas

Any ideas on how to make the car more responsive apart from cleaning the fuel injectors or replacing them? Getting across intersections is such a hassle when I put my foot down and it takes 2-3 seconds for the car to respond.

I have new plugs and have cleaned the TB. New battery put in yesterday but had this problem before new battery put in. Cleaned the K&N air filter with the required K&N cleaner and grease. I actually put in some injector cleaner with a full tank of gas (mid-grade). I'm at half a tank now.

Once the inital hesitation has passed it accelerates fine. Have an automatic trans.

have you checked your ecu for codes? I have a 96 automatic with the exact same symptoms and my car threw a knock sensor code which is a ghost code and won't initialize the check engine light. I to have no accelleration from a start until it gets over 3000rpm. It could be a number of other things as well but just curious as to whether or not you checked the ecu.

Yeah I actually checked it yesterday. I had forgot to connect a sensor after cleaning the TB so the CEL came on. After I connected the sensor I was going to just reset ECU but I watched the little "morse code" and the only two codes were from the sensor.

could be a ks, could be a need for a tune up..i had crappy starts, bad idle, codes, and hesitation and a thorough tune up took care of it all.

I use mid-grade gas so I hope that's not bad. I definately don't use the low grade.

The KS is $168.00!! Any idea on where to get it cheaper if this is the problem?

They are $109 here -http://www.nissanpartsonline.net/nis...ne_catalog.htm
Enter your yr and model then click on mechanical parts then click on fuel and exhaust then fuel delivery sys. to find ks.

I got mine on ebay for $75, sooooooo much better than $200 from the Dealer. I've come to expect to be reamed everytime I go to the dealer. Like $16 for a rubber grommet for the hood stop.

Thanks everyone. I'm currently bidding on one at eBay. I'll also check the classifields but I'd prefer a new KS to a "like new" one. My thought behind this is I want to spend as less time under the hood as possible and a new part should garantee this (most of the time) over a gently used one.

I've keep the car tuned up: replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, changed oil. If it's not the KS what else could it be?

I couldn't get my hand in there so this is how I did it-

Take the air intake plumbing out of the engine bay.
You'll need one of those universal joint(swivel) extentions to be able to get the socket in there.
I used 3/8 sockets and extensions, some people use 1/4 for better clearance.
I forget the socket size 10 or 12 mm?? Probobly 12mm

Unscrew that bish with some long extentions and and a then pull the bolt out with a long magnet. Pull out the ks with the wire attached then unplug it once you pull it out.

As for the install I used one of those long pull out magnets again to drop the screw in the ks while holding the ks(plugged in to the wire already) in place with a long stick. Once I had the screw in the hole and right over where it screws in, I patiently turned the screw with the magnet just enough to get it to where you can't pull the screw out with the magnet then I just pulled the magnet out and very carefully put the socket over the bolt with a couple of long extensions on the ratchet then screwed it on.

Reset codes.

Thanks for the extra advice and picture. This is going to be VERY helpful. I've already learned what sounds simple rarely is and this proves it. I still love the Hayes manual description for chaging the starter:

1) Remove air intake system
2) Remove two bolts from starter remove starter
3) Installation is opposite removal.

It's so easy!

I have a question i just replaced my ks the old one had a big crack in it and when i reset the ecu and pulled the codes i got the ks code and it say either replace ks or check harness code p0325. What im wondering is there is a relay comeing off the harness where the ks wire comes out of does that have anyhting to do with the ks? and i have a code for multiple engine miss fire but when i listen to it its not like a crazy bad or anything the car runs descent but not at full power. Anyone know what could be causeing the miss im thinking about takeing it in for a tune up but id rather do it myself if i can figure out the prblem instead of givein my money away on the max once again.

In the stickies there is a how-to on replacing the KS and it mentions lightly sanding two wires that go from the KS to the engine. The pictures will show you what I'm talking about.

Also if you knocked the sensor (no pun intended) or dropped it, it might not work anymore. Apparently the things are VERY delicate. Also it's possible you just got a bum sensor.

That's the most I can tell you having not changed the KS yet.

Sounds like a clogged fuel injector. The exact same thing happened to mine, I would go to take off after a stop light and go to step on the gas and nothing. After feathering the gas pedal it would sputter and take off. I put 2 bottles of STP concentrated fuel injector cleaner in and it took care of the problem and hasen't done it since.

Update: I had half a take of 89 gas with STP fuel injector cleaner in it. With half a tank of this mixture (used to be full tank) I filled up with 93 gas so I think it's improved. Yesterday when I put my foot down (and not much) my front tires spun. Granted the tires are half worn but I do think it's better know. I lost the bid on eBay to some jack*ss so I'm glad I don''t have to replace the KS just yet.

But my cel blinks do you know anyhting about that i believe my codes are p0300 and p0325? My plugs are fine ive checked them but there is also a relay that looks like its connected to the ks harness anyone no anyhting about that?
