The exhaust law is already in effect and you are allowed to mod just not over 95db. Maybe that has changed, and there is a new law now? As for the tires thing i really dont think it will go through, there are a lot fo people that will stand up and tell the government how stupid that is. Just another example of the maine politicians trying to regulate what they know nothing about.

Didn't realize there were this many Mainers on the org! Where did you get this info? I think we've always had a "too low law" as well as the 95db sound law. But I don't see why they want to go this far with the tire size stuff. There are so many trucks and suvs built for off road that will be against this too. It's just going to be like the emmissions laws a while back hopefully...
North, you live in Brunswick? I'm down in the area all the time working at Romeos in Topsham.

Theres cars from the factory that are louder and faster than the majority of the "modded" cars out there... why dont they put a ban on those while theyre at it. And how about Harleys? The loudest pieces of **** on the road... Nooooo, those are American Icons, nothing wrong with those; even if your ears start bleeding when a pack of 100 pass you on your way to South Dakota. On top of that, lets take peoples right to smoke in public away because its killing them, but let them gorge all they want on fast food since a 30% obesity rate surely cant cause more harm than smoking in a designated section at a restaurant. And while were at it, lets make gay marriage legal in every state and give them tax credits for doing so.... This country is moving steadily in the wrong direction and unfortunatley its going to keep heading that way. Time for another Civil War.

Maine cops for the most part like big pickups, mud tires, musclecars, etc. My dad lives in Maine, and I am sure he will NEVER be ticketed/towed because if his loud exhaust, rims etc on his 28 ford street rod. Most cops give him the thumbs up, or ask him to look at it. They can not know all info on every make and model, think about it. It would be impossible to know if it was an option, limited model, etc. What are they going to do carry every make and model's option/accessory list? This is mainly to avoid really loud exhaust( no cats/staight pipes/unresonated)/ extreme lowering( headlight height comes into factor) just modify within reason. This is not to stop all rims, exhausts, etc that is just stupid, they can't enforce when they don't know wasn't an option/ dealer accesory. This law would make conversion vans illegeal, not made at a dealer in most cases, done at custom van places. Such a dumb law, when was this passed, where is it found? Would really like to see it, there is always a loophole someone forgot.

A big reason why N20 is illegal on street cars is for safety reasons. Particularly, it is a fire hazard if the installation is done poorly. It could also be a hazard for rescue squads at a car accident scene.

Ive been hearing about these laws from inspection places. I believe that they are not yet in effect but are soon to be, because the cop that picked me up tried to get me for it. The new law book will be comming out later this year, and thats when we will all know. I am joining the SEMA action network, they have already overturned several descriminating bills on cars in maine and basically every other state, and im hoping that they can manage to bust a few of these as well. If your interested in making a difference, check it out and see what there up to. I personally find it rediculous to not beable to mod stock cars when youve got corvettes, and even more simmilar, evos and sti's on the road that are loud and fast.

Still how can they proove that your wheels, exhaust etc was not a factory option. Perfect example is those ugly scions, you can get multiple wheel sizes and exhausts plus more. So your saying this will be illegal now, cmon that is just dumb. They can't ticket you unless they have proof that wasn't an option or limited edition which would be impossible. The only thing they are trying to stop is unsafe or illegeal mods, not aftermarket rims and quiet aftermarket exhausts.
