Headlight question

What would be the best headlight to use without going to an HID kit.

I have looked in all FAQ and stickies didnt see this question and the search is not working.

I simply want the best bulb without rewiring being needed or worrying about burning harnesses out.

1st of all you mean headlightBULB, stock is best next to HID cuz tinted bulbs do not give good output, you can try PIAA's if you want but they are expensive. Also Silverstars burn out fast, Xtravisions are known to give great output.

theres no regular 9004 bulb that is drastically brighter than a basic halogen bulb .. theyre all basically the same ... and if the bulb has some of kind of color or tint to it, then its gonna be even duller or less bright .. the silvania sylverstar bulb is somewhat white but they burn out fast and arent really even that much brighter than a regular bulb ...trust me ive done pass. to driver side comparisons .. 9007 conversion or HID is best for more light

Anything besides stock is going to suck in the rain, for the most part even HID's are worse than halogens in the rain. Just something to consider.

Don't compare any halogen bulb to HIDs....there is a HUGE difference. There is NO halogen bulb out there that can give you "the look of HID" without actually being HID...you are wasting your time and money if you buy any Halogen bulb and are trying to get the look/light output of HIDs.

No, definately disagree...unless you are referring to shitty plug and play HID kits...in that case, I definately agree.

my fault, I got kind of off course...

I would say PIAAs are definately brighter but if you want to spend that much money on them you might as well save up and go with HIDs...

Not too fimiliar with PIAA's options within 9004 bulbs but I would say all of theirs are about the same as far as light output/intensity vs. stock.

i got these bulbs. Pretty expensive, I used to have silverstars and they look identical to me. Some say silverstars burn out quickly, others swear by them. I would go with silverstars, but its your car and your money. Get new corner bulbs if you get new headlights and do the nub mod thing. They look a lot better in my opinion.

okay, i didnt read the posts above in detail.

silverstars suck: they blow soon
blue lights are bad: your eyes see blue light as "glare"
read this: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...ght_color.html
if you dont want to do anything besides change bulbs: 9004 Sylvania Xtravision. youre looking at $20 tops
if you want to do more: use a razor blade, cut off two nubs in the headlight housing (right where the bulb touches the headlight case), swap the high and ground wires in the socket, and use 9007 Sylvania Xtravision

PIAA's have a whiter, cleaner light, but they are not brighter. They also cost a small fortune. Sylvania Xtravisions are the best halogen replacement bulb out there. Available at Walmart for 14 bucks a pair, you can't go wrong.

I've used many different bulbs, nothing I've used compares to PIAA. I use this site to buy most of my bulbs. http://www.xtremewhite.com

I've read about alot of people on this forum saying Silverstars don't last long, but I've had great luck with them. I've had a set of 9007's in my Bronco for about 5 yrs now and a set in my Max little over a year. They have good light output (not HID) but a small inprovement over stock in my opinion. The biggest improvement I got on my 95 was putting in 99 headlights and doing the 9007 bulb conversion.

Sylvania what? Silverstar or Xtravision? Even though with the 9007 conversion, Xtravision>Silverstar in light output.

xtravision is always better than silverstar for light output

if you want ricer blue, dont actually need your headlights, and dont mind replacing your headlight bulbs every 2-12 months, go with silverstars

figured i would just go with the sylvania xtravisions not into the whole ricer look. i do have the ricer blue side lights however i do need my lights and do remind replacing mines every other month.

thanks for the input adding conversion to the list of mods coming up along with strut bar, clearing tailights, short ram intake w/ k&n filter, and spray painting break calibers.

I'll chime in and say I've had Silverstars in for about a year now with no problems.

Of course they're not brighter than standard, but I like the whiter look to them and they're distinctive enough to notice a slight difference.

Also, if your Silverstars burn out in less than a year, Sylvania will send you a replacement for free. Send the burned out bulb(s) here:
