Starter question

Hey does anyone know the size of the two mounting bolts holding the starter in? Just curious, I have to get into it in the morning. Also is replacing the starter easy or a pain in the ****? according to my manuals it looks easy but if theres anything ive learned working on cars its not to judge a job by its directions. Alright well hope you all are having a good night. Oh and yes I did check the stickies and no the answer to my question is not there. Thanks!

There was a thread a few days back,(Changing starter tips), that should answer all your questions and then some. I put one in last week and it wasn't too bad, just a little tight. Just take your time - especially with connectors as to not break anything at disassembly. Are you buying rebuilt (139) or nissan (249)?

^^ look at the other thread as just stated

17 mm, 14 mm, and 12 mm will be the sockets you need

A breaker bar will turn it into a 30 min easy job

breaker bar on starter bolts no buddy... it called snaped. Spray some
PB-blaster let it soak for a bit use a 3/8 rachet with an extension and use your palm to get them out. Hit your palm on the rachet they will break free.

That's the same concept as a breaker bar! Not everyone can apply 90 lb-ft of torque easily with regular sized ratchet. I've used my breaker bar on many bolts and nothing has snapped. Whether it was y-pipe bolts or axle nuts nothing has snapped.

3/8 rachet as a concept of a breaker bar are you nuts?! 1/2 drive is aka like a breaker bar. Go ahead use a breaker bar on those tb bolts as well. A matter of fact use them for the tps screws.

One thing to use them on rusted exhaust bolts and another to use them on the trans housing where it doesn't get near the extremes of exhaust bolts

No I'm not nuts its a fact

Most people will have 3/8 sockets anyway so the cheaper option is throw the 1/2 to 3/8 converter socket which in the end its the same damn thing

torque = length * force

yeah lenght = greater force, 3/8s isnt strong enough for some caliper bracket bolts. sometimes 1/2 isnt enough thats when breaker bars come out. I don't know what kind of breaker bars you use but the ones I use for work are about 2-3 feet long. Anything less than that shouldnt be a breaker bar. craftsman 3/8's drive is small man, I have no idea how you can compair that to a real breaker bar.... Even Snap-on , sk8, napa ect

My breaker bar is 2 ft long I have no idea who made it all I know it works and its shinny

the whole point of me suggesting to use a breaker bar is to make life easier like I said in my original post
2x the length = 1/2 the work!!!!!!!!
