CV boot winding noise (pics)

Earlier this week I was being stupid and e-braked a turn going a little too fast...Later that night I started hearing a noise "winding down" with slower speed and "winding up" when I speed up. I jacked the max up today and I think I found this problem:

Would me busting my CV boot be caused by taking a turn too fast? I was going about 25-30mph and still had the car in 2nd gear when I pulled the ebrake...

Yep, coincidence. The good news is that you found it immediately and so rebooting is probably all tha tis necessary.

It's a mess and a PITA doing that stuff, also it is expensive to pay for it I paid $150 for Brakemasters to replace both boots.

Check your brake lines. When I had my D2s and they were ziptied I had one just BARELY touching the inside of the wheel.

If you already have a noise, it was probably cracked before you just didn't notice it. I would replace the entire axle they are cheap. With the amount of labor and chances are that the noise will return soon after, for 60-80 bucks just get a lifetime axle. There is alot of dirt inside the axle, you can not get it all out with just a regrease an new boot and noise will return chances are.

I thought the noise was my clutch or flywheel at first because when I put my ear to my shifter I could hear the noise more intensely. It seemed like it was coming from under my shifter trim.

One of the guys in the local Z club has a maxima and he said he could do the labor for $80, so 80 + 60 for the CV axle= 140, not too bad But my speeding ticket is for the exact same price!

2"

Maybe I got a defected one from autozone or something or the drop killed it, but the boot was in perfect shape, but my passenger axle started clicking one day... I exchanged it under warranty (love it) and no more clicking for now.

AH MAN WELCOME TO HELL!!!! One of the longest, messiest repair's I'v ever had to do and if it's clicking already your gonna have to replace the whole axel.I replaced both of my boots with new FULL boots* the only way to do it* don't use the half/split boots. Those suck. I feel for you man, but doing it yourself will save you a sh!tload of ching, trust me. Good luck!
