Check out the LED TAILS
Why does everyone ask for a write up? Why don't you just start researching how LED's work and go from there. It's quite simple, it's just time consuming. What you don't understand, ask on the org.
You need:
research how to wire LED's
research resistor information
research LED specifications
soldering iron
solder
LED's (the best but most expensive would be superflux LED's)
resistors
something to mount the LED's on i.e. computer board
dremel cutting tool
wire
wire strippers
Oh and check out www.hidplant.com and go to the LED category, you'll find more information than you'll need from people who are very very knowledgable of LED lighting.

If you need a step-by-step this DIY is not for you. It takes some time to learn and put together, but not too hard. Every setup is different (too many variables) so its hard to do a step-by-step.
Tails look good. Do you have them wired where the same LEDs do the tail/brake or are different ones going to light up?
I made some LED tails a little while back and I wired them up tail/brake. I liked them better that way. But in the end I didn't like my design so I took them off. And now I have custom maxima red/clears. I want to put LED'sin those but I'm skeptical, so we'll see.
well i would do a write up but it was a b!tch to do the pulse width modulation.. it was a guess and check game... everything else was simple the leds i used were 62k mcd(or so they say) i got on ebay they are 10 mm.. let me tell ya guys... if you are planning to do something like this make sure you have at least a week to research and guess and check the pwm..

i completely agree with this. don't be a hard @ss about it. this site is supposed to be informative and help eachother out. don't send everyone on a wild goose chase trying to find the information like you did. if you felt like helping out, you would point some specific problems or difficulties that you had. but if not, that's cool too. we may end up making the same mistakes as you, but that's our fault for not doing enough research, right? they look good, though, but the driver's side inner looks a bit crooked? i'll make sure that doesn't happen to me, i guess.

It has nothing to do with being a hard @ss. This is a mod that you have to understand the different components to do. Like was said before there are TOO MANY VARIABLES for someone to give a full accurate write up.
Either way, the way I see it, is you are looking for someone to hold your hand through every step.
This site is informative and we do help each other out. But there is a difference with helping out and doing the work for you. If you searched on this website you can find many threads on LED's. You will be able to see any mistakes anyone made, and find what you need to accomplish the task. Then whatever else you didn't understand you would simply ask questions. Rather than come on here, see something that you think looks cool, and say can I have a write up, Because you aren't willing to take some time and your finger to push a few buttons and click the mouse.
Anyhow
f550maranello2:
I don't mean to ***** up your thread. You're taillights did come out fine.
nice work, how does it look with out hitting the brakes? is it brighter when you hit the brakes or is the same as without hitting the brakes? I want something like how the G35 coupes rear tail lights are.
all the posibilities with this mod are incredible. you could make it to where one set of rows lights up ONLY for braking, while the other is just the constant "on".man.....just think of all the patterns.....if you had the time to be really creative with it.
but simple does look clean as hell, like with yours f550.
i cant even decide how to do mine...

It's aight 63k mcd sounds unusual I don't belive that for a second, and even if they were 62k or 63k or what ever it would be so bright it would blind somone, look at a g35 the brightness is about 13kmcd on them. I'm sorry just doesen;t look very lined up. Nice work otherwise, not somthing I would put on my car, although I did a set already they look slightly different.

yea the 62k mcd is probably bull but tonight i modified the pwm once more and adjusted the tail light pulse width and made them brighter... will post pics tomorow

I completely agree with this, this site is not meant so people copy what you do. If you look around MOST of the cars on this site are designed/built/modded alike. There are few members on here willing to take a gamble/pay for something different. If you are interested in building a set of tail lights, do some research. go to the led section of www.hidplanet.com read up on what it takes to make this work. Everyone can't do it, and as the old saying goes. You have to PAY TO PLAY! I've bought so many parts just to mod and end up selling...[/rant]

I don't see the harm in making a simple step by step and maybe sharing problems you ran in to.
If my friend was to do a mod I did, I would definently offer helpful advice and tell him things to watch out for. I guess it just depends on the type of person you are.
Its called sharing
