Test Drive of My 97 5spd (vid)

Just finished my 97 Rosewood SE 5spd, bought salvaged, now good to go. Did a little filming with the camera under the headrest (joosdawg's idea). Didn't expect my car to be able to chirp 2nd Still stock too, except for FSTB.

Specific to Chicago would be around Downers Grove/Woodridge area. (DuPage County) I have some really nice roads to do this kind of taping, but did it when I was actually going somewhere, not just wasting gas

It was only AFTER I got new tires on my sawblades that I could chirp my tires. I went from bald, bald tires to Toyo TPT's.

I had a 95 Auto SE, black on black leather, tinted windows, auto climate control, and etc. But sacrificed all that for a 5spd I still have BOSE, which is good, but no leather and auto climate control. The first time I drove my 5spd I was in love, I never thought it'd be the way it was Look for one yourself, there's plenty of **5spd Maximas** in the sea Just have to look.

Ah, the power of the 5sp. Nice vid, I tried to make one of those "headrest clamp camera mount" videos but it sucked. My clutch is also toast because of an incident right after replacing it, so I can't chirp second... but then again with 245s up front now I would be sort of angry if I could, seeing as I have a stock VQ.

Nice vid, nice car, nice shredding up some tires and abusing your open diff . I sorta wish I could still do that, but I'm not too sad to see it go (well, for now) in favor of saving my tranny and clutch a little, and wider tires.

...you also need to learn to shift a little faster... haha

From 1st to 2nd I shift at redline. Put in first, give a little gas, release clutch, floor it, and shift at redline, or a little bit before that. From 2nd to 3d also about redline, maybe a little less, and etc.

shift_FAST

yea first gear is a ***** to get used to especially since ur not used to nissan high catching point on the clutch. shift from first as your approaching 64-6500 rpm and try not to push the clutch pedal all the way down, get it down enough to just get the clutch off of the flywheel, bang it in second and let go. that way you could shift faster and win races.

and to the man that had the honda that shifted far apart...probably cuz after shifting the honda went so low in rpm's and had to gain back power...slow a$$ |=|0n|)4's ....dont worry about your shift being short..it's called torque..something you miss outta ye old civic...you should enjoy it :-D ...

end of ramble..

I got mine from Chicago, bought from an insurance auction. (Copart) You buy a salvaged car and then fix it yourself, which saves you some money. I spent about 3K on the car you see in my sig Rides very smooth, nothing wrong at all, (chirping 2nd is a nice feeling compared to auto, barely moves when you press the gas) There were little things though , like a button was missing from the HU, has no floormats, but it's all fixable, so it's worth it. Only thing that I miss from my '95 is the leather seats and auto climate control, but I might swap seats in the near future anyway, so it's all good Overall I'm pretty happy with what I bought

I believe all you have to do is present prrof of parttime employment, or a reason that you need a car on campus to the parking enforcement office. say you have to go home every weekend because of a family business. i had friends who did that and they all had cars during freshman year. of course all your friends will try to leech rides off of you, and u probably won't go to as many classes.

man tell me about it, when I first got the car I was convinced something was messed up due to that high catching point to this day theres no way I'm going as fast shifting wize as I do in my neighbors supra, btw he also said its awkward.

whered u make the vid? its hard to tell from the angle, the last bit looked like rt20. .wanna make some good videos go the the northmost point of rt25, theres oem great roads there, great for vids imo. thats where i make alot of mine.

i couldnt bring my max with me to orlando so its sitting in the driveway waiting for my return. stuck driving a saturn. least it can rip 2nd loose all day long even with new tires, even if they are like 185s or soemthing liek that.

Its probably fine if you learn on it but I learned to drive stick int he supra and that setup owns. Also I drove my friends 240 and it felt different as well... but IMO clutches are different. I didn't mean I cant shift well in the max, I think I stand pretty well on it but just not at the rate of speed I can hit in other cars. I just need a few more months and I'll have it just as fast, I hope... just have fun

That's definately not something you hear everyday. No offense, but unless that Supra was a pos, I can't imagine someone teaching anyone how to drive stick on her.
But I agree with the clutch feeling fine for me, especially with my 5th gen. setup.

hehe no actually it was a very nice supra, a 96 to be exact. But he is my best friend and at the time he only had a few mods done to it at that pint about 3 years ago. But he sold it a bit ago to get a G35 coupe the supra had 198,000k's on it lol and was still running strong. Anyways I'm allowed to drive the G35 only if he's with me haha. But good times, I didnt say the clutch was bad its just a speed thing, but I learn to be just as fast in my max hopefully just not yet and its just the 1st to 2nd depress level that feels awkward but overall the clutch is great with a nice smooth ride.

I made the vid just driving around my neighborhood. (Woodridge/Downers Grove) area. I posted that up a few posts back. But anyway, know any good spots to film where there are like some secluded roads near my area? Route 20 by the looks on a map is somewhere near Elgin. It's way too far for a little filming. The last bit was 75th street

The maxima to me feels like the easiest stick to drive for every day use compared to all the other sticks I've driven including mustangs, rx-8's, miata's, 626's, civics, accords, camry's , etc. It may not be the best setup for racing but its still a grocery hauler.

Mabye your clutch springs are worn? or your slave cylinder is going?

Good job. Don't get in the habit of chirpin' the tires, it's bad for the clutch and your drivetrain. When I put my new clutch in, I chirped all the way to 3rd with heavy 17" 2k maxima wheels on stock Falken tires. I'm assuming you installed new clutch components so make sure you break the clutch in properly.
