Brake Hardware Kit

When changing the brake pads is it necessary to change or even use the shims? Mines are all rusted and at 20 bucks a set i would rather not change them. Plus most pads these days come with the shim built in for noise purposes. How many of you use or reuse the old hardware kit when changing the pads?

Reuse only if they look really good. Brakes really aren't the components that you should cut corners with. Buy the shim kit - sleep better at night.

They are there to prevent brake squeal. I'd buy them from a cheaper source (www.worldpartsexpress.com) and install them when they arrive. I usually re-use mine as they haven't fallen apart yet.

Definetly get the kit. I look at it this way, had I paid someone to do the job, it would have cost twice the price.

I usually look it up by nissan p/n. You can call it in and ask, or call the local dealer and ask for the part number when they give you their ridiculous price

What do you mean by pins? The 2 caliper pins? I noticed last time i changed it they had a little rust under the boots. Also the inner pad seems to wear out alot faster than the outer pad. Do you have any idea how much the pins would cost? Could i just take them out and clean/regrease them? Is there anything else i should change while im in there?

try this site, and look up the components you want to purchase...
They have pins, shims, pads what ever you need. Look in the collision catalog under front suspension
