Transmission Rebuild and CEL Code Question
Transmission Rebuild and CEL Code Question
Hey folks...I have a question. I read the motorvate.ca write-up on rebuilding a transmission...however...his tranny is a manual. I have an automatic. Is it basically the same? I have a not so hot tranny sitting around and my tranny is going aswell so I want to rebuild my parts one and put it in when mine gives out. My dad is very handy and if there is something I can't do...he can. So difficulty isn't really an issue here. I just need to know if it's basically the same write-up. If not...can someone direct me to an automatic transmission rebuild write-up?
Also...what part do I need to fix/change to get rid of the P0302 code? It say something like EGR pressure to high/low or something.
Thanks....I love Maxima.org.

Rebuilding an auto trans is a bit more...involved, to say the least.
With the 5 speed, you only need to worry about gears, syncros, and shims, really. In the auto you've got the valve body, pistons, check *****, clutch packs, bands, high/low clutches, etc. to check/replace.
Anyone with the tools can rebuild a 5 speed fairly easily, but you can't really just jump into rebuilding an automatic, because it takes some skill.
AFAIK there is no writeup for the auto trans rebuild, because usually it's cheaper to buy a junkyard one than to buy an entire rebuild kit for an automatic (for us, anyway, only rebuild kit I've seen for the RE4FO4A (I think that's the code, anyway) is around $600, and that's from L10).
As far as the EGR code, search around a bit for the correct procedure to check and clean out your EGR components.
