93 octane, where do you find this stuff?

I always hear people on here say things like "I only put the best in my baby, 93 octane gas...." The problem is that I do not know where to find the stuff. Here in AZ you can find 87 89 or 91. I went to cali recently and it was the same thing. I was also in Texas not too long ago and saw that they had 86 89 and 91. What states can I find the elusive 93 at the pump?

Can you actually tell a difference in your maxima from super premium to the 110 octane? Do you get better 1/4 mile times or better performance on a dyno? That seems like a huge step up but it would be nice to try if the gains are truely there

it only helps mostly in boosted aplications, i bet it would clog your cat if you ran it N/A, dont think there would be much gain, it just helps revent detenation for people wanting to up boost or nitrous aplications...

Most gas is formulated per region. 93 octane is common in the North East. Sort of like E85 is more common in the Mid-west. I've only seen about a few stations that sell 91 around here if I remember right I think it's Sunnoco. This is one of the main factors on why gas $$ are so high. We would pay less if they didn't refine so many different types of gas.

go to some of the gas websites and send them an email, and ask where a station is located in your area with 93. i did that here in NZ for 98 the BP very quickly pointed me in the right direction, I also emailed Mobil to find out where the stations where that sold 97.5 and got a list of every gas station.

might be worth checking into ?

It is tried and true - dyno proven i do beleive - that running 93 octane on the 3.0L is good for horsepower gains all the way through the curve.

However, you are most certainly not going to gain any power on an N/A car by running 110 octane.

so on a nitrous powerd 3.0 running 101 oct fuel will increase hp throught the entire curve? i didnt think u would get any gain from it, only prevent u front detonating

Here in Richmond, Virginia we get the 93. However, if 91 was cheaper, and since it's still recommended I would rather go with that, but I can't find 91 anywhere!

BTW paid $2.98 a gallon for 93 two days ago!

I'm going to say what no one has said yet - you're fine with running 91. If I have the choice - that's what I run. Most of the stations around me have 93 though. I believe the owners manual states 91 octane for performance - n/a Maximas won't really gain anything from the 93, just like we won't gain anything from 110 octane.
Juicey, you're not over $3/gal yet? Weaksauce....

I actually prefer 91 octane in my maxima instead of 93. Its what our cars were made for. I really dont have much of a choice up here in the northeast for 91 octane. its Sunoco or NOTHING. Honestly, besides the whole detonation and your engine blowing up myth, i find the maxima actually RUNS BETTER with 91.

but hey, everyones maxima is a littlebit different. I know of an .org'r that runs E85 and has no problem with that.
BTW, CAN we run E85 without modification?

Almost all the stations up here is in baltimore have 93. But I have seen 2 maybe 3 stations that had 91 and it was a little bit cheaper.

stations here are ALL 87, 89, 93, so i just always use 93. use whatever the highest grade/premium is at the gas station you go to.

correct. no horsepower gain from running that high of octane fuel unless your timing is advanced like hell. simply used to prevent detonation.

The Kroger gas station by my house has 93 octane, but the speedway gas station down the street from it has 92. I go to the Kroger's usually cause its cheaper if not the same price as speedway. Getting an extra octane for free isnt bad IMO.

so we could get half and half of 89 + 93 and get some 91.5 to save money? I wonder what the gas attendant would say if I asked for 10 gallons of each (I live in NJ can't pump our own gas)

91 wouldn't necessarily be less expensive than 93 octane. It just depends where you are located. I paid $3.10 the other day for 92 octane which is the highest I can get around here. 91 always runs the same price as 92 here so I only go to Amoco (only ones that have 92).
