I don't think that would fit, it's for a RWD car.

it's legit but it won't work on a maxima... or at least not without a lot of persuasion

That's a VG30 engine, you do know that right? We have the VQ block. The 2nd gen and I believe 3rd had the VG30, so this would be better suited to them. The rear of the block where the trans bolts up (99grnmaxgxe got it right, it's RWD and we're FWD, mount locations wouldn't be in the right place, not to mention the VG and the VQ surely have different engine mounts) won't fully accept the RE4F04A auto trans the 4th gen uses (IIRC). It's like trying to bolt a 4th gen trans up to a 2nd gen engine.

If you're looking for an engine swap, go with jman7777's idea, the 3.5 is the best mod for the money in the 'heavy modifications' class.

ummmmm, you have your engines mixed up. The 2nd and 3rd gen Maximas have VE30DE's. The VG is used in 300zx's (both turbo and nonturbo), and the 4WD Nissan Hardbody Pickups. Either way though, there is no point in putting that VG in a Maxima.

I don't have my engines mixed up.

The 2nd gens are VG30's, same as the 300zx's of the same year, both N/A and TT. I had a 2nd gen not too long ago and I did a fair amount of research on the topic, they do have VGs. Check car-part.com, look for an engine for a 2nd gen Max - you'll find descriptions like this - "1987 Engine
Nissan Maxima -SOHC,VG30E"

The 3rd gen had either the VE or VG, but I wasn't too sure on what caused two different motors to be put in. Search shows that the VE was only available on 92-94 SE models, and the rest of the 3rd gens had the VG - http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...80&postcount=7

Unfortunately this is not even the first time someone posted an ebay link to a JDM VG/VE engine (turbo or NA) and asked about using it in a 4th gen. Search people, then give it about 5 minutes of critical thought and it will be clear why this would not work.

Seriously? Are we doing this thing again?

When you find the 2JZ-GTE yes, it does work.

But it's not JDM. What I'm thinking about is getting one shipped over here. Then I'll hack out that crappy USDM beam and install a JDM one for MO POWAH!!!

At least 30 horses.

I don't understand why people knock the rear beam so much considering that stock for stock, the 4th gen put up better handling numbers than the 3rd...

I'm putting a Porsche 3.2L boxer engine in (mounted in the trunk) on Saturday, do you guys have any recommendations for subs to put under the hood once I get that stupid VQ out of there?

Why pull the VQ when you could keep it driving the front wheels have the boxter engine drive the back and go all wheel drive for MO POWAH!!!!

As far as your subs go just rip out the back seats and install them there.

BTW is the Porsche engine JDM? If not you might want to start looking for one...
