Redline....cut off?

Ok maybe a confusing title but...

Tonight i was working on my car and after went out for a drive to make sure everything worked right. When I got back home the car sounded a little funny so i revved the engine up to just before the redline and held it there for a couple seconds listening intently for any problems. Well after a couple seconds of holding at the redline the engine cut and went down to idle, once i let off the gas it worked just fine like nothing happened. Just curious if this is a precaution built into the computer or a glitch or if anyone has ever even experienced this...Thanks

Sounds almost like your car thought you hit 118mph.

That is perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever read on here.
What in the world were you thinking?

I'm sure it was the car cutting off the engine I hope there wasn't any damage done. In normal driving it's perfectly fine to take it to redline especially the VQ30DE but when there is no load on the engine it should never be reved passed 3000rpms it's extremely bad for the engine and especially bad for a V6

You really shouldnt be revinging it at redline for 3 seconds... thats kind of.. bad? But it shouldnt cut out.. but if it's driving fine then you should be okay.

it sounded like he flooded the engine w/too much gas. i did it once in my 240sx, w/ a misshift once and it couldnt get into the next gear. i believe it was 2-3, and i held into 2 too long at redline. basically car shut down. simply hold onto the gas pedal for 15 seconds, before u crank the car, but while key is in ignition mode.

anyways, it was a dumba$$ thing to do

If you flood it.. does the holding the gas pedal for 15seconds really work?
