Does your car hesitate? If so, then that's the loss you're feeling.

tell your friend he doesn't know what he is talking about! I replaced mine in
10 minutes last week and noticed a big difference in acceleration & power!
change your ks & you'll see for yourself.

just used 3/8 ratchet into1/4 drive & the right extensions & swivel. Plug harness onto new ks & put small piece off paper into socket so bolt doesn't fall off, and installed it! Car runs awsome now w/ 103k!

Cheap NO. But cuts on the hand? Yes. My car ran a lot better with the KS. Unfortunalely it is located in a place on the engine that is accessible but for someone with big hands like mine and Apparition's it may be difficult to reach.

Well this is flying in the face of the others, but . . . my KS was throwing a code but the car ran great.
It turned out not to be the KS itself but a bad connection.
The connection was fixed and the KS code went away; but I noticed no real difference in power. Gas mileage seems to have improved though.

To me, my car was running pretty good, or so i thought. It did seem a little sluggish and did hesitate when I accelerated, so I said hell with it and bought a new KS. I had no codes or anything at the time either. Changing it was a piece of cake actually, it's not as bad as people make it seem. Of course your gunna get scraped up, and might have a little trouble, but its nothing to freak out about. After changing it, my car feels like it came back from the grave. It pulls harder and I really noticed an increase in gas mileage. Feels like my car kicks *** now, but whatever, it's your car, and the more you fix or mod your car, the more you learn about it. Good Luck.

Plug a 470K ohm resistor in the harness plug where the knock sensor plugs in, black and clear wire. If that helps mileage and power it needs to be replaced. This is the easy and cheap way to tell if it needs replacing, also test with multimeter to check if it is within specs, both hot and cold.

Mine is throwing a code (no cel though), and measures 14MOhms when cold 1MOhm when hot .. so it definitely needs to go. How many extensions and swivel sockets did you guys need to get it removed? Did you have to remove anything else in order to get to it? I assume air box + battery ... anything else?

You shouldn't have to remove anything else, but just be ready for some cuts trying to shove that bad boy in there

Don't overtighten it will be too sensitive if you don't follow the factory torque specs

My 97 wasn't running right, less power and an occasional take to long to turn over problem. I checked for codes and got back
0304 Knock Sensor
0903 Evap Canister Vent Control Valve
0803 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor
I would agree a bad KS takes power away.
I was going to test it today but I can't get my hand in far enough to
even test it. So i guess i'm not going to replace it. I don't have much
patience for this anyway.
Anyone think the other two codes, 0803 and 0903 are a result of a bad
KS?
