Control arm bushings

After searching around I have found no consensus: is it possible to get control arm bushings for a 95 without the whole arm? Urethane would be best. And can a garage mechanic install them without a press? Thanks for your help.

EDIT: I just found poly ones on the summit website; It seems energy suspension makes them.

I just went through this process with my '98 GXE. The answer is yes, you can get the bushing without the whole control arm despite what the dealership tells you.

Energy is exactly where I got mine and, from my research, they are the way to go. The polyurethance bushings from Energy resist oil breakdown and are a little easier to install.

A press would certainly make things easier but the bushings can be installed without one. My mechanic did them for me without a press. He said that getting the old ones off was harder than getting the new ones on.

Many parts stores will only sell the whole control arm and many mechanics will only install what their suppliers can get them (meaning some mechanics won't install aftermarket stuff that the customer brings in due to warranty issues). But you can certainly find mechanics who will do it for you, like I did.

I've found that the best way to get the front bushings off is to burn the rubber out and then either pound out the metal sleeve or cut through it with a hacksaw. The rear bushing can just be cut off.

Good luck.
