Question about a gauge cluster

I was wondering whether the 1999 digital gauge clusters keep the mileage inside them or when you reconnect a different ones is it stored in the car?

Thanks

I don't know about Maxima but in my Camry the cluster stores the mileage from the car it has been taken off. So if the car you took the cluster out off has 88000 miles the car you put it into then will show also 88000 miles.

ya 1998s and 1999s store the milage inside the cluster. so if you got a different gauge cluster, it would read the mileage of the car you got the new cluster from.

The ECM for all 4th gens also has an internal odometer and its not related to the cluster.

The gauges will have to be reset by a dealer or there is a way to bench accelerate your milage (do not beleive you can lower). I think the milage is also stored in the ECU. I wouldn't be suprised with 99's if they had to match up. Hopefully someone who has swapped can shed some light.

The mileage is stored in 2 places, the cluster and the ECM. I imagine Nissan stashes it away in the ECM primarily to fight fraud, after all the mechnical odometers were very easy to roll back, though one wonders if the ECM takes mileage into account when controlling the engine.
