To Believe or Not to Believe?? (Codes)

My engine light came on today. I checked the codes and they 0101 and 0304.
0101 is the camshaft position sensor and 0304 is of course the LOVELY knock sensor. Dont know whether to change them or not. I resetted the ECU and the light hasnt come back. If it does I guess its goin to the shop. What do you guys think?? Any tips? I got a 98 SE 5spd about 110k miles on it. Havent driven hard it soo long. Any help is appreciatied. Thanks.

Even though ur light does not come back on, i believe that the effect of the bad know sensor will still impact you r cars peformance. I would know because my mom and i have same car same year and model exept she had the knock sensor code awhile ago but now the CEL went away byitself. However, acceleration of her car was much much slower than mine. Unless you dont car about ur performance, u dont have to change it. Its up to you.

I've had the knock sensor code myself for quite a while. Some people say that it significantly effects their mileage, however I'm consistently getting close to or over 400 miles per tank with about 80% highway miles. I bought a new knock sensor a few months ago, but just haven't taken the time to install it.

Change your knock sensor guys, you'll gain 100 hp. LMFAO!

That will never happen dude, but it must have been a real noticable gain, huh? LOL!

It takes awhile before the light will come back on. I drive about 50 mi. a day and it takes about 1.5-2 weeks before mine will come back on. The computer runs a series of diagnostic tests but only does one test every so many miles. This prevents someone from resetting their computer before emission testing, and having the computer show that is all good. Emission testing sites can tell how many tests have been passed on the ECU, I think they need 3 or 4 passed tests out of 8 or so before they will let you pass.

Also check that the CEL didn't burn out, this one happened to me I thought my car was fine until it failed emissions due to a bad O2.

You can get a KS from eBay for $72 shipped, and if the cam POS code doesn't come back I wouldn't really worry about it, just check the connector on the sensor in the engine bay.

change the knock sensor. the other codes may be ghost codes. i had 4 different codes when i had my "0304" including rear o2 sensor, evap canistor, and another evap code.

but changing the knock sensor cleared everything to an 0505.

also i got more hp than the factory rated 190 by changing the ks. jk......
