On the 4th gen Max, in the rear deck, does the Max have a 6.5" speaker or a 6x9 speaker?
Thanks
Todd

mine were Bose 6.5"

Actually I think they might be 6 3/4", but either will fit.
Pretty sure the non-Bose is also 6.5"

4th gen rear deck speakers can use a 6.5 but a better fit is the 6 3/4 oversize such as the Polk ex652a or the Infinity Kappa 652.1i.

The 4th gen max has 6.5" rear deck as well as front door speakers. If you want to go with a 6 3/4" speaker it will fit but i would suggest against it, just get a sub or 2 and stick with the 6.5's. For the rear you should go with coaxial speakers, if you want to replace the front go with seporates because the tweeter is in the A-piller.

Uhhh, subs should really have nothing to do with one's choice for a 6.5 or a 6 3/4 speaker. Both speakers are the same price, and none would be used for bass response anyway. 6 3/4 speakers for the rear deck fit better period.

If it is Bose is uses a funky adapter, but a 6.5 or oversized will work, some people have even used a 6 x 9, but the smaller size is all you need, especailly with a sub. A lot of the Polk's, Kickers, INI, etc. run as oversized, you can pick most up at some place like CC, the Polk DX series is a good coax for the money, if you have a 97-99, the tweeters up front may be in the upper door. For sound quality the closer the tweeter is to the mid the better imaging you will get. Seperates will sound better, but a coax for the rear fill is good, with excelant imaging.....

It appears that you missed my point - no matter what size speaker you get I suggest a sub or 2. The 6 3/4" speaker will handle a little more bass(thus my suggestion to stick with the 6.5 and add a sub if you are looking for more bass) but will otherwise be almost identical to the 6.5" speaker. The 6 3/4" speaker will also handle a little more power comming from an amp(if you are looking into that at all) but again it will be minimal. Subs should be a determining factor one's choice in speakers. Simply put - if you have subs you dont need to go big inside, if not, it will sound better if you do.

K

P.S. I know most people are not "bass heads" but just adding an 8" sub with 100 wats of power will make ALL of your music sound better. Besides, the sound system is 1/3 of a show car and should be given due attention.

I just installed four 6 3/4" Polk DX's in my '97. Yes, either 6.5 or 6 3/4" will fit. However, the 6 3/4" fit perfectly, while the 6.5's require an extra mounting bracket.

I have no rear speakers. I find them distracting. Plus those two empty holes let more bass into the cabin from my subs in the trunk.

Pics on my homepage...

Just curious. What do you find distracting about them?

Went to your site.
Home page loads fine.
Click on image, and on the next page I get:
- the banner ad at the top
- the animated type [nice!]
- another photo
- and a counter

but nothing else.
Can't go anywhere, see anything...

btw:
here is my quote to all, "speed kills, always where your seatbelt"

unless it's just that you can't find yours...

Rear speakers pull the sound stage to the back. I'm not using them either.

So then why not just tune the fader to a front-biased setting (or all front)?

Why even buy rear speakers if they not will be used? I will be removing the stock speakers pretty soon and seal off the holes with sound deadening.

True it may pull the imaging back, but without rear speakers, passengers (If you have them) wont be able to enjoy your system. It's no fun to sit in the back just feeling the wind of the bass.

I am using Focal's 165 E2's in the doors, which are seperates. In the rear I am going to use Focal's 165 HC with a Eclipse 3242 4 channel amp to push these speakers. As for bass I am not sure what I want, but it will be one 10" woofer.Any suggestions?
Thanks
Todd
