i was wondering if anybody has wired a real alarm siren to your stock alarm system. i would rather have my alarm system going off as a siren than just my horn honking. i already have done the alarm beep mod, but it would be cool if it would chirp when i lock and unlock the doors.
i dont really want to spend the time to install an aftermarket full alarm system, so is there a way to do what i want to do??? thanks.

did you happen to have a write up to the alarm beep mod? I saw there previously was one but last time I checked the link was bad.

It can't really be done. AND, it's not really worth it.
Car alarm sirens require a constant signal to put out the variable tone that it goes through its iterations of doing (which the aftermarket alarm brain conveniently provides)
Even if you tried this with a relay, the relay would only see the on/off pulse that the beeping horn (and flashing headlights) give, so it wouldn't even be able to detect a 'constant' and therefore give the siren a constant.
Plus, wiring up an aftermarket siren when you don't infact have an aftermarket alarm =

I haven't touched the horn wires, so when the alarm is activated, the horn will still honk. I just like the chirp sound when locking/unlocking vs the horn honk. Chirping is more settle than a horn in my opinion.Originally Posted by djfrestyl

Actually - I haven't even cut any wires to add my siren! Im sure you know that holding the lock/unlock buttons turns the horn chirp on/off. I turned my horn chirp off, and wired the siren to the power lock wire -wich gives me two options: 1) Chirp only or 2) Horn and Chrip which sounds odd. I like the chirp by itself.
So just to clarify, you're doing all this work just for a chirp when you lock your doors? Well then in that case, suit yourself. You can wire it in the fashion you mentioned, though I cannot foresee what the final tone will sound like. Please let us know.
I just don't get how a chirp when you lock your doors is going to fend off thieves, because chances are, they're not around to hear that very brief momentary chirp at the time that you lock your doors. But if it provides peace of mind for you, I cannot deny you that pleasure. Good luck.
