Quick question - Oil Pressure Gauge

Hey everybody...I'm sure this has been covered though I couldn't find a thread on it...easy question though. I'd like to install an oil pressure gauge in my max and just wanted to know which to use, mechanical or electrical. I'd prefer electrical since it's easier to run a wire into the interior vs. a line, but I need to know whether an electrical would even work based on how our sending unit operates. Does it operate as an on/off switch? If so then the electrical wouldn't work and I'd need to go mechanical. Let me know, thanks

the electrical gauge has its own sending unit. it has nothing to do with the stock switch. you can either use a tee so the new gauge is connected and the factory switch/light will still work, or you can use just the new sending unit. the stock light is useless any way. just remember the nissan threads are bspt and the aftermarket gauges are npt. you need to get the correct adapters or a leak could develop.

Thanks a lot...all I needed to know. I'll prob wind up just using the new sending unit and forgetting about the stock light. Because I agree with you...it's pretty much useless. Thanks again

i have my idiot light turned off, and i just run the aftermarket sender. You do have to buy a BSPT adapter, which can get pricey, I payed 19 bucks shipped for it. It's a little piece of metal.

nissport has adapters too, even more money, but much better quality and more fittings for turbo use too.

$5 for a peice of brass which will break when using a heavy electric sending unit. I wouldnt chance it. unless you run the tee up somewhere else and its not supported by the oil fitting.
