hey guys i have a problem with my 4th gear.....if im driving normally and shift into 4th it goes in fine.....if im around 4.5k in 3rd and shift into 4th it grinds.....if im redlining 3rd gear is a b!tch to get into 4th.....like if i try to do a quick shift it tries to put the shifter into 2nd which happened one time but i saved it....also when im redlining 3rd i have to throw it in neutral and then jam it into 4th which kills me if im at the track or racing or something....what can it be? Syncro's? If so how do i change them out....i also have a short throw if does has any effect to this problem...thanks !

 

It sounds like you abuse your tranny a lot. I doubt changing just the synchros will fix it at this point - you might need new gear(s) or clutch hub(s).

It also sounds like you have a shifter problem - make sure your short-throw is connected well and that the bushings are solid. But if that's ok, it's very possible the shifter gates are damaged and making it hard to select gears.

The only solution is to take the tranny out and let a qualified transmission mechanic tell you what's wrong.
