Ac

what types of maintenance needs to be done on my ac because summer is here and it is hot as s***. anything i can do to make it cooler?

JNCoRacer 05-24-2006 05:50 PM

Is it not cooling or just not cooling as well as you'd like?

valvestud 05-24-2006 06:06 PM

not cooling as well as id like.

R5a7B 05-24-2006 06:47 PM

same problem here, my ac is not cooling at all, i think a new compressor is needed, but would rather find out if its something else first.

Conrad283 05-24-2006 06:48 PM

Did you get the AC system checked out? Maybe it needs to be recharged?

ManualMaxima 05-24-2006 07:34 PM

does anyone know hwo to empty out the 134 out of the system, cause i would liek to try the synthetic stuff, i dunno if regular is synthtic but there is some that is suppose to be better. gotta find the scoop on it

valvestud 05-24-2006 09:51 PM

what does recharging it do?

99se5speed 05-25-2006 01:08 AM

idk i have the same problem...my ac blows luke warm air at 65deg then when i turn on the recirculation button it's freezing. Do i need a recharge or what's up??? Sry don't mean to jack the thread, just that's it's a similar problem. Thanks.

Edit : i popped my hood and touched the line of the ac and it's so cold i burned my hand. idk what's up...

Same problem, my AC hardly worked at all until a few weeks ago. Might want to have a shop check your Expansion Valve. Kinda expensive fix (not as much as compressor, though), but to me my AC is worth it. That was the problem with my AC. Now I have icey cold air. :)

Same here. My a/c was working but not great. Specialist changed the expansion valve and now it's cold enough to freeze the b*lls off a brass monkey.

guyfromkop 05-25-2006 03:20 PM

how much did it cost to change the expansion valve?

valvestud 05-25-2006 05:07 PM

yea what he said.

valvestud 05-25-2006 07:00 PM

its not my fan speed or strength that the air blows, just that it takes a really long time to cool down the car.

Jr25 05-27-2006 11:58 AM

Where is the expansion valve? How much was it to get it fixed btw??

BlackMazi 05-30-2006 07:59 PM

i got quoted $400 to replace expansion valve

You just need to recharge your a/c, it should cost no more than 20$ and can easily be done by yourself.

AceTKK 05-31-2006 01:25 PM

I'm having A/C issues too. The fan blows/circulates air just fine but when I turn on the A/C I just get a loud hissing noise and no cold air. Does this sound familiar to anybody? I'm sure it's going to be expensive...

clive 05-31-2006 01:26 PM

The expansion valve... hmm, hard to say, because he first 'fixed' a couple of things that didn't need fixing. I think the job cost $150 incl. recharge. But this is Mexico, so you'd probably have to multiply by 100 in the US, where all AC techs have a special diploma signed by Gard.

spiff56747 05-31-2006 01:30 PM

I just paid $1300 total to replace my AC compressor, drier/receiver, and condenser :wtc: The mechanic said the latter 2 were damaged in an accident I had 3 years ago, but everything was working fine until the A/C compressor blew up a couple of months ago.. Me = pwnt

Nothing is wrong, the A/C cant get cold when you have hot air coming in from the outside...

Ac is a closed loop system.. if it doesnt leak it should be cold always
If ur ac needs charging it has a leak somewhere.... dont just refill it because it will just leak out again...

You can try to charge it urself but that doent usually work.. take it in and let them tell you whats wrong with it

lol what? i don't think my problem is normal at all.

BigLou93SE 06-01-2006 06:01 AM

My AC is one thing I never wanted to have to spend money on...and now mine doesn't blow any cold air...sucks bad.

I feel your pain... I just got the ac compressor and evaporator replaced...total about $1200 parts plus labor

guyfromkop 06-01-2006 11:36 AM

i just spent $20 and refilled my ac, blows so cold now it will freeze your nipples off

udienow 06-01-2006 02:20 PM

I have the same problem with my ac. Its cool... but its not cold. It bearly keeps the car cool on a hot day being constantly blasted at 65 deg. I hope to just refill the ac and hope that fixes it.

About 6 years ago, my Maxima's A/C would not cool at all. The car was still under warranty, so I took it to the dealer and they were unable to find any leaks(use a blacklight for detection). They claimed that they re-charged the A/C. It cooled for about two - three weeks then stopped cooling. I took to a little mom & pop place, where they recharged the coolant. I have not had ANY problems since then. Which leads me to ask, how could 6 years go by without any problems if there was a leak?

Some leakage is 'normal', though - up to 1/2lb per year.
