I'm getting a vibration in the steering at 65+ MPH on my 95 maxima. Thought it was the new tires (225/50 R16's) but they have been balanced 3 times now. The vibration fades in and out independent of speed (>65). The drive train looks good, no bent rims or axles. However, the struts are original and are scheduled to be replaced as soon as my Eibach's (pro kit) arrive. Any thoughts on a source would be appreciated? I'd like to fix the problem while reworking the front end.

sorry no help but i have the same year as you and am having similar problems. the only thing is i don't know if i have "bent" rims or not. that would really suck since i just got them. i have four lug nuts on each wheel. once i get all five i will go in for an alignment and maybe balancing even though they are supposed to be balanced already. good luck in dealing with the problem.

Vibration

If the vibration mostly occurs at a specific speed range, chances are it is a balancing issue. Since you mentioned that you just got new tires, I'd bet that they used the impact wrench to seat the wheels. That's a bad. I always ask them to be hand tightened and torqued.

Take the wheels of and re-seat them yourself. You may find a big difference.

Let me know how both you do.

did they do a dynamic spin balance or static balance? the other thing you can do is try to put the fronts to the rear and the rears to the front and see if it makes a difference...
