Need Help ASAP w/ Transmission Problem

I have an automatic 95 Max and it currently has about 175K on it. I took a road trip for about two hundred miles and the car drove perfectly fine. My average speed was about 80 and I didnt notice any problems during the drive. When I had arrived to my destination I attempted to put the car in reverse to park and the gear doesnt engage. I hit the gas and the car goes nowhere and I really dont know what to do. When I put it in any other gear it works but now it seems to be revving real high before it goes from 1st to 2nd gear. What should I do?

Assuming the fluid level is correct, your transmission needs a rebuild. Urgently.

I was guessing a rebuild was in order. If you had to take a guess do you think it would be possible to drive it 200 miles so I can get it home w/o the tranny going out on me? Also might there be anything else I could check other than the fluid?

When last did you flush your ATF?
If the ATF is relatively fresh a rebuild maybe in order.

I have never flushed it and I dont know when the previous owner got it done if ever. I havent check the codes but i'll give it a try and post the results. I had a code for a while because of an 02 sensor so I didnt really think to check it. Could flushing the atf really fix my problem though? I thought it was somethin internal.

Okay so I checked my codes and I have 4 of em. 2 I knew about previously which are 11 01 which is an inhibitor switch and 05 03 which is front right heated O2 sensor. Now the two new ones are 05 04 which is automatic tranmission control unit signal to ECU and the other is 11 06 which is improper shifting to fourth gear. Any words of advice?

I think it could be a loose **** linkage cable. I remeber someone throwing similar codes and it was just a loose cable. Unfortunetly I cant remember where that cable is. Hopefully someone will remember.

You might have a TPS problem, I had a bad one and replaced it and now it shifts normally.

I'm not too knowlegable on the AT trannies, but I could be a bad selenoid or something maybe? If thats the case a full rebuild wouldnt be needed, but dropping the tranny and cracking it open would still be needed.

Well the good news is I was able to make my 200 mile trip back home w/o the tranny crappin out on me but who knows how much worse I may have made the situation. As of right now it still has the same symptoms and something i noticed right before i got home is that the tranny has a delayed response. As I was sitting at a light I tapped the gas pedal and it took at least a half a second or more before I got any response from the car. But I do have additional cars at my disposal so I dont need to take it into a shop tomorrow but it will be in there within the week to get checked out. If its a wrap for the tranny that means i may be getting my 5th gen a little sooner than expected.

Anybody know whats up with the delayed reaction when I hit the pedal?

Inhibitor switch code? Two things come to mind, the inhibitor for O/D, and the inhibitor for TC lockup. I bet it is the latter. Did you notice, above 50 or so, if you give it gas do the revs rise appreciably? If so then it could be the TC isn't locking up. Sometimes 'wide boys' defeat this so as to get rid of a car with a failing tranny. It really does sound like your tranny has joined the Village People (gone West)
