Tracked the Max at MSR against formidible odds

I attended the National Z Convention last week (I'm originally/still a Zer, but I'd sold my TT a year or so ago, and my 260Z is under restoration at the moment, so I brought the Maxima out).

Here are a couple shots of me kickin' *** in the Rookie class... I didn't get passed or chased hard once... but was getting point by's and passing all sorts of others... 350Zs, TTs, NAs, classics... you name it. AND, to top it all off, I got to meet the infamous Matt Blehm, and I was lucky enough to have him as my track instructor!! Matt, it was great meeting you, and thanks for the critiques on the suspension and the driving! I'm just glad I was able to improve my lines, but wish I could have gotten the nerve up to push it a bit more... I'd just installed my Cattman/Progress RSB and I wasn't used to it yet (I literally installed it in TX on Tuesday, then tracked at MSR with the ZCon Group on Thursday!). Matt was constantly yelling at me MORE THROTTLE MORE THROTTLE while I'm feathering it at the what I thought was my adhesion limit (literally the car was wiggling back and forth from over and understeering going into these fast sweepers at over 70mph and Matt's yelling at me to go faster!! lol!).

Anyway, here are a couple shots a friend took of me and Matt out on the track...

I promptly passed this TT in front of me

The moron in the 280ZX Turbo in front of me wouldn't let me by. He gave me a point by on the one straight our class was not allowed to pass in, and then he wouldn't point me by again... I was on his *** for like 4 laps... Matt made me back off a few times as the guy just about lost it in serveral corners because he was driving in his mirrors constantly. That ruined that session because I was SO much faster than he was... =( But it was fun nonetheless!

If anyone wants to see a few more shots of me all over that guys rear end... click the link and check it out... lots of pictures.

Funny how the guys in the background in the second pic are casually building a house, while cars are racing around furiously a few hundred yards away

Nice pics btw

Those are actually villas that you can rent while you're there if your there for say a weekend long event. Really nice too! I've heard they're a bit expensive though!

Wear and tear wasn't too bad... brakes were actually brand new as were the tires at 142k miles. Maxima now has 147k after getting back from the convention and all (drove ~3600 miles round trip and around town while I was out there).

This run cost $160. Matt had the Maxus event at $95. The cost was cheaper if you were a club member and registered early (I think like $100), but I did neither. I'm not an active club member, and I waited until the month of the convention to register. =(

It's painter's tape. It prevents chipping or any damage from rocks and that such.

And nice job with the Maxima! The pictures of you on that guy's rear made me laugh

Yeah pretty much... I'd just installed new corners and bumper lights... and they're not the most structurally sound parts on the car (definitely not OEM quality). There was one guy there that had just painted his car a few weeks prior, and drove it to TX from CA. He had his entire front end from wheels forward covered in tape... =)

Thanks on the compliments... it was quite fun, I'm definitely hooked! =)

Sweet, I love the pics, it must have been a blast! I def love road racing it so much fun compared to 1/4 mile racing, don't get me wrong the 1/4 is sweet and i love it, but in my opinion nothing is more thrilling that racing around showcasing your level of driving.
