Had a run in with a new VR6.
I was coming back from Branson the other day with my wife and my brother and this little Volkswagen gets right on my *** as I get on the highway. So I punch it and he starts to fall away for a little bit and then I notice he's starting to creep again . I was doing about 110 at this point. (Road was basically clear, very little traffic.) Then he's coming real fast so I stomp it again. We both came over the hill doing doing 130 and he's still gaining. Came to the bottom, my needle said 140 (it's off I think cause of tires) and he's about 2 car links back. As we start to go up the hill he's still creeping on me. The hill was about a mile long, and by the top he'd pulled up to my rear door. The lanes came together and he had to back off. We did this for about 15 min. back to Springfield. It was the most fun I'd had in a long time. Is my car slow or are these little things really fast? Anyone else had any experiences with them?
In stock form, they make about 170fwhp and 165 fwtq. Throw in the fact that they weigh 3000lbs, they aren't all that fast (lower 15s). Everyone on this board thinks the VR6 is the end all to lower end V6s. The guys over at Vortexx.com are flattered because they know the match is still in the Maximas favor (considering the 5 speed). There are VERY FEW VR6s in the 14s. Most are in the lower 15s with mods, no less. There are only few on that site that are running well into the 14s.
I'd say you did really well seeing you've got an automatic. They've got good topend and he just barely reeled you in. A 5 speed Max would have walked him.
