Y-pipes

Im looking into getting a new exhaust, im either gonna get the cattman system from the headers back or the cattman catback and a y-pipe. Which one has the best rep? I dont wanna any bees in a can or rattling. Just a nice throaty sound under hard acceleration. Also, if i get a y-pipe and a cat back should i replace my cat as well?

Come on man you dont look like a newb, why u asking that question. There is a whole stickied thread with sound clips of all kinds of exhaust clips, im sure the one u want to hear is there. Plus there have been millions of these threads already that you should be able to search for.

Anyway to make it ez for you imma just say that, IMO, the cattman tho it be good is not worth what it costs. I have a budget y, and a greddy sp2 catback and it sounds great, just like you want no bees in can and a deep tone at WOT.
Yes you should, but dont have to, replace the cat.

If you got 1 1/2 grand to spend, go with Cattman's full exhaust. It'll have no bee's in the can sound whatsoever. And you'll love the tuned sound it gives. It's also very quiet as opposed to other exhaust systems.

If you ain't got that much money, then go with a y-pipe of your choice, and still employ a Cattman's full catback system. Depending on your Y-pipe, you may still get bee's. The next catback option is to go with Greddy SP2. Both cattman and greddy gives you quiet but nice notes of exhaust. Other than that, you'll get loud crap and become annoyed soon.

this is sort of pertinent to this thread. From what i understand there will be a louder sound under hard acceleration but i'm wondering if there is an increase in decibel or droning at high cruising with a y-pipe.

If you run stock exhaust, changing an y-pipe will not affect much on the sound. You'll morely worry about the bee's...
