K&N is good, even though a bit pricey - thats what I have. OEM is also good. Check out the fluids and lubricants forum - theres some good info there on this stuff.

does it really matter? I really dont think it does as long as you change the OEM oil filter every 3mo/3k miles.

Visit the stickies in the Fluids and Lubricants forums. From what I read the one to stay away from is the Fram.

K&N is a complete waste of money. Ditto with the Mobil1 filters.

Anything better than the cheapest in the store or Fram standard filters is fine. The most important thing for your engine is to change the oil and filter more often. I change the oil and filter together at 5k, and use Mobil1 10w-30 oil. When I run dino oil I change at 3k and use a new filter each time. My car has been on this diet since 45k (it's at 150k now) and it burns less than half a quart each 5k.

The best value of the premium filters IMO is by far the Bosch Premium. If you take it out of the box, you will notice it's absolutely identical to the Mobil1 but at half the price. The maxima size filter runs around $7. In fact, for a time Mobil1 and Bosch both used to cite the same filtration test results on the box, but I think Mobil1 got wise, rebadged the filter and made Bosch remove the filtration test values. So you still get a Mobil1 filter at half price.

I've run alot of filters over the years, and I'm happy to say I've never had a failure. I change the oil 3k with synthetic.... overkill?? yes but it's cheap protection for my motor. Here are a link to check out, good independent info.

I use a Bosch.

It filters at 98.2% while Mobil filters at 99%, for half the cost.

Just keep your intervals low and it really wont matter what's on there.

Well, this is only my subjective opinion, but... Oil filter (i.e., paper filter) technology doesn't have a lot of places to go. I mean... most filters are about the same. Changing the oil often is the best option and to some degree the filter as well.

If you want to see how effective the filter is, get a snap on magnet for the oil filter, or just get a really stong magnet and duct tape it on the filter. Drive for 3000 miles or so, change filter, and cut open oil filter.

Metal shavings should be on the magnet. The less shavings, the better your oil protection and filtration system is.

I have heard stay away from Fram, but that's just based on a few posts I have read. I would say buy a basic filter, like OEM and be done.
