CEL = EGRC Solenoid valve ZOMFG

I've had the 02 10: Fuel INJ sys left bank:lean code for a while now. Now all of a sudden I don't have it anymore, but I have another one. Now I have the code 10 05: EGRC Solenoid valve. I don't know what to do. I heard I would have to replace an EGR piece and a guide tube? What would you guys do with an "EGRC Solenoid valve" CEL?

Thanks,
Aaron

The EGR solenoid valve is real easy to replace. It's a small sensor with three thin hoses coming out of it. It's near the transmission dipstick. It should be green in color. I had replaced mine on my '95 when I had it. Just remove the air intake assembly and some hoses near the throttle and you can get right to it. Those thin hoses on the sensor were really stuck on there, so I actually cut them and put new ones on. I think I paid around $60.00 for the sensor (8 years ago).

Thank you for the reply! Did that clear your code? So just replace the sensor and the hoses? Do you happen to know a part number?

I recently replaced the egr valve (electric gas recirculation valve or some ****) on my 99. Im guessing its that same as the egrc . Turns out carbon build up on the input and output side was the cause of the check engine light. Cleaned it and it worked for a while, but is back on. Try cleaning it first. If need be its easy to replace and can be found online a lot cheaper than any auto parts store.

No, they are not the same. One's a valve and one's a sensor.

If it's near the transmission dipstick and has three thin hoses comming from it I should find it. Can I clean it out?

Yes, if that's what the CEL is throwing out, then replacing it will clear the code. Yeah, whew! As far as the part number, I don't have it anymore because I replaced this in my car over 8 years ago! You don't have to replace the hoses if you can get them off the sensor. Mine were hard to remove, so I just ended up cutting them off and replacing them with new ones.

I replaced my ergc solenoid valve after throwing 1005 code a few days ago. it hasn't come back up yet.

here's the part#: 14956-31u10

i got it for $55 from my dealer. tell them you can get it for $53 online and if the guy is nice they will try to match it (and you won't have to pay shipping from the dealer).

Cool! Thanks for the infomation. Where can I get it online for $53? I'll print it out and give them some proof. So far the cheapest I see is $62 online.

You can check the condition of the solenoid by disconnecting the sensor and applying voltage to the 12V signal pin and applying ground to the ground pin on the sensor. If air can be passed thru the two adjacent vacuum ports on the sensor when voltage is present, the sensor is good. If not, the sensor is bad. More than likely, though, if the CEL thru this code, it's more likely the sensor is bad since it's an electrical part. You can clean the EGR system and reset the CEL and see if this code comes back again. The solenoid could be clogged, but I would do the test like I said earlier if this is the case.
