Hi all. I previously had a 92 Maxima SE 5spd that was run off of the road last week and totaled. I expect to settle out of court within the next two weeks with the other driver for a large sum of money. Anyway, I loved my previous Max so I'm considering a new one, more specifically a 97-99. I'm looking for a 5spd SE but they are hard to come by. What should I expect to pay and what should I be weary of or look for. Thanks in advance

Hmmmm, for a 97-99 SE, I'd expect to pay anywhere from 10-15k dollars depending on miles and options. Prices may be more if its like a 99 with only 10k miles on it. Hmmm, if you find one like that let me know.

try http://www.kelleybluebook.com to find what a car with the miles and options that you want is worth. Then check out www.autotrader.com to find a specific car. Hope this helps you out! I'm planning on a 97 SE also, i expect to pay in the neighborhood of 12k.

It is all depending on where you live. I live in Bay Area, CA and it is higher than L.A., and many other areas.

Here a fully loaded (auto, leathers, climate control) '97 SE costs ~$15k - $16k in Oct 2000.

I love my 97 SE
[I think the 4th gens look better than the 5ths
- just wish it had the extra hp that the 5ths come with.]
In fact, I'm so into it, I talked my office-mate into trading in her
Exterra for a "rosewood" 97 SE auto with leather & sun-roof & 43K miles.
She paid about $16K for it.
She's still smiling.

on the 4th gen forum, "Johnno" posted "Pic of my Maxima":
[As far as mods go here's what i've got so far.
- Intrax Springs
- Tokico Shocks
- Racing Hart Type C2 3-piece 18x8 all around
- Pirelli P7000 SS 225/40/18 all around
- Greddy Full Catback Exhaust
I'm actually selling this car right now. Price $11,000.00]
Check the thread to see the picture.
It's a 4th gen, not sure the year.
Looks like it isn't an SE though - silver door handles...

97-99 Maxima

Keep this is mind about the 97-99s;

On the outside, they all look exactly the same, but;

98 was the 1st year with the digital odo, and the auto climate control is also the newer version.

As well as having the same stuff as the 98, the 99s got a slightly more restrictive exhaust, and some have the new 5th gen alarm system. Also, 99s are the only ones that were available in the limited (SELs) with their unique colors, like red.

How many miles? 5 speed? And reason for selling?
Thanks

personally, I got the 97 because I like the climate control that was on my parents two '95 GLE...

and yes, it does depend where you live on the price...

you can sometimes get 97 SE 5sp for around $10-12k... with decent mileage... high mileage and you can probably get one under $10,000.

I got my '97 SE 5sp for $11,000 in '99 (which I thought was a good deal). It had 95,000 miles (all freeway) from the original owner who even gave me the window sticker and some newspaper reviews which he had laminated. The car was perfect, and had every option except the auto and the heated seats/mirror. It does have the Bose, Sunroof, Auto Climate Control, Power Seats, Leather, ABS (which I believe were the major options). The window sticker said $28,900 for the car MSRP.

no prob bob

but whatever yer budget, you can afford the SE over another,
it just might have a few more miles, or no leather or whatever.

I wanted the SE for the wheels/suspension
and the wing [I know, functionless].
I didn't want leather - too slippery, and I have kids.

On the other hand, I'm about to buy some new wheels.
So if you plan to do a lot of mods over time as budget permits
you might go for a different [less expensive] model.

I can't believe some of the prices I am reading. I wish I lived where you guys live. I paid 17.5K for a '98 last year with 36K miles on it. It is a perfect SE 5-Speed in Sterling Mist though. I can't wait to trade it in for a 2002 SE 6-Speed Sterling Mist. Hahaha

Yes but i prefer the no chrome look. Is it possible to remove all of this easily? I plan on upgrading some suspension parts anyway, so that doesn't bother me much. Is the GXE 5spd available with climate control and leather?
Thanks

I don't think the GXE come with leather and climate control since it is the basic model.

What is your budget? and you do you live?

I live north of Atlanta, GA. I have about 3k saved up already and plan to have 5 by the end of the summer to use as a down payment. My parents agreed to get a loan for whatever i have left (to payon the car) and i would make payments through them. I'm looking for like a 97 black on black se 5spd
