Shifter acting up. (automatic)

My shifter is acting funny like something is stuck or tangled. Sometimes the red line doesn't perfectly line up with the letter when i shift into D and it feels like im pulling on a little bungy cord or something. Can i take off the cover (PRND21) and look in there or something?

Thanks in advance

More than likely the cable needs adjusted or replaced.

That and also i've heard of people spilling stuff on it and messing it up. Its not very hard to remove the cover... it just pops off. I recomend taking the cover off and making sure every thing is clean and not sticky.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago. Me and a buddy of mine who is a Nissan Master Tech took off the entire cover and adjusted the cable. I had it so bad that it wouldn't even go into park and he adjusted it and now its fine. Although I have noticed like you said like you are pulling on bungee cord or something...I also have noticed that if I put just "a little" pressure towards the passenger side it slides better..just a thought. Good Luck!!!!!

fixed

but how long will it last. yeah, i just popped off the center piece and then i was able to get my hand under there to fix the problem. It was that thin piece of film that slids forward and backward with the shifter (you can see it). It fell off the little track and got bunched up somehow. I'll bet it was just dirty and it got stuck.

Thanks everyone.

Noticed something else: Everytime i hit the brake in PARK, i hear a TICK! comming from under the shifter. I finally saw it but i dont know what it is. It's a little device looking thingy right under the shifter and it CLICK's once everytime i hit the break in park.

Is it the remote start because when the car is remotely started if you hit the break before you put the key in, the car dies. Could that be it?
