What did you pay for Tune Up

What did you pay in labor, parts or combined for your last maxima tune up?

the cost of the parts, its something that is easy to do on your own even with very basic mechanical knowledge

Hell yeah thats too much. That money that can go towards mods. Thats a new suspension (springs and struts) and the parts you'd need to do the tune-up yourself.

A tune up is basically spark plugs, isn't it? And maybe an air filter?

Since you have the quote in hand (in assume), with the parts they were going to order, why don't you go to the parts store and get prices for those parts and do it yourself. It shouldn't be that hard, but it depends on your comfort level.

Tune up consists of changing the spark plugs, air filter, oil/filter, checking the belts, hoses, fuel filter, all fluid levesl, wiper blades and your tire pressure, to include the spare.

6 hrs is way too long and 465 is way too much, my first tune up was $275 for no longer than 2 1/2 hrs, but now n days i do it myself; for about $150 less its worth it.

That $465.00 quote sounds about right, I had my dealer print me off an estimate for giggles when I was having my alty swapped out (warranty).

I actually usually try to get estimates for all the work I do. Really makes the beer you pick up afterwards seem really cheap.

If you are able to get your car in the air safely (jack, stands) and can use containers for all the spent fluid you can get this work done in a weekend working nice and slow. The main items: fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, drain/refill coolant, oil change (if it's that time), sparkplugs, tranny fluid.

I'm sure many people will be mad to hear this, but my car was in last week for a tune up and my bill came up to $5000.00.
Of course it did include quite a few parts (including suspension parts and almost all sensors) and replacement of them all, along with oil flush, spark plug replacement, idle adjustment, throttle cable adjustment, fuel injection and throttle body cleaning, fuel filter replacement, air filter replacement, EGR solnoid valve, pcv valve, and the sensors etc.
The main reason why I am pissed is because my suspension noise is still there and performance and response of the car increased slightly, and my alignment was thrown off like crazy when I got it back.

$50 just this morning, for 5 quarts, a filter, a set of plugs, an 8mm socket for the coilpacks (lost mine) and a bottle of Seafoam (easiest way to check for exhaust leaks, found out the damn pipe going into the resonator must've rusted through or the weld broke...).

And it took about an hour for all of that, half of that trying to retrieve my channel locks from in between the rear exhaust manifold and the y-pipe. The exhaust is still smoking from where it's burning off the rubber that got melted on to the y-pipe where I dropped them.

You got taken to the cleaners! Did you have a sign on your forehead that read "MARK" when you booked the appointment?

wowow ok. that was 465 just for labor excluding parts. i think they charge 89/hr or some ungodly rate. however they are a performance shop....tons of TwinTurbo Z's, supras, and other project cars sitting in the parking lot. ill let them know that i wont make it next week. they were going to flush the tranny fluid and everything possible but yea thats a lot of money...

anyways, im gettin some pretty bad MPG and i feel like the car could be more responsive. so lets go through the list-

-air filter
-spark plugs (Brand?)
-oil change (have free coupond for one at midas)
-sensors (2 o2 in the Y and knock somewhere?)
-power stearing belt is going and i already bought a replacement but i have no idea how to put that in

i guess i will just search the FAQs...hopefully i'll find detailed how-tos

I can't believe you're asking these questions. Take your own advice.

I've never heard of anyone paying more in repairs than a car's value, it's nonesense. And if I did it, I certainly wouldn't tell anyone about it, what's the point? I don't get this forum on at least 25% of the posts...

I hope you are a.) kidding or b.) inflating what you really paid.

If not,

Well keep in mind that the price is in Canadian dollars, and it did include some parts that I ordered. It was still a significant amount, eventhough it was discounted.
This car is a huge project for me and hopefully by the time I am finished with the car it will be one that stands out and almost as good as new.
I know I can get many different cars with the money that I have spent, and will still spend on the car; but what can I say? I just really love my Maxima.
